@octatonic You'll dig the new album then (and all their other stuff most probably).

They're about as far away from stoner rock as you can get now tbh. They still have heavy guitars but there's a lot of progressive keyboards, guitar noodling and quiet-loud dynamics.
Halfway through 'Melted on the Inch'.
    These guys are fantastic.

Dopesick - thanks for the Boss Keloid link.

Who'd have expected that from a bunch of pie eaters!

Semi-acoustic - is that allowed in a Stoner band?  I didn't know you got Les Pauls in 'Antigua burst' either.

I liked the quieter bits on the Melted by the Inch videos I watched.

    Cheers,

    Ddig

Boss Keloid? Presuming they named themselves after Iron Monkey?

That's the first impression I got. Saw BK at The Unicorn supporting Slabdragger back in 2013 and was pleasantly surprised how worlds apart they were from IM.

The first music in this post kind of reminds me of soundgarden stuff! But with Chris' blistering vocals.

Slabdragger! I saw them supporting Ufomammut in the Turtle. Main memory is them slabdragging their gear through the crowd after they played.

Might have a split 12" of theirs somewhere indoors, thinking about it. Head of Crom Records?

@Kitsune They were but I believe they are now on Holy Roar Records. That's what their album was released on anyway.

I hear more about them from Thredders production duties. I've been off the scene for ages now, so I don't really have a clue whats happening any more. Thats what having kids does for you!

I've not got it yet. Will do, but too many other things going on at the moment to be able to give it the time it needs.

Shockwave riff is bang on for Blitzkreig though!

Not strictly stoner alert: Been listening to a great album by Italian band, The Ossuary. Southern Funeral has elements of classic, stoner and doom, with a strong 70's Sabbath/Maiden/Rainbow influence. Superb. Tony Iommi and Dio were Italian blood, after all!

  • Anyone else heard Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard? From Wrexham, the new album (the brilliantly titled Yn ol i Annwn, which means back to the Underworld in Welsh) mixes stoner, doom and prog with haunting and ethereal female vocals. Superb.

@MagicPigDetective ; Thanks, I like that!  I've listened to something else of theirs on Spotify and wasn't struck, but this was much better.  Or maybe I just had to be in the right mood.

Yeah, have seen MWWB a few times, they're very good. They're playing with the superb Elephant Tree in Camden on the 22nd as well which I shall be attending.
