Ha, it was a rare occasion @AustrianJohn believe me. 
Looking forward to seeing what this looks like with the nickel covers fitted. I'm keeping the e-tune as well for now as I'm one of those strange people who like it.
Thanks for the feedback gents it's (as ever) well received. I'll try and get some decent pics when it's all back together.

Thanks gents. It feels like a Les Paul now! I'm more amazed that it works perfectly after reassembly and the pickups definitely have a different sound with the covers fitted. They're more defined and sound, dare I say it, more expensive. I'm a very happy man.

one hell of a transformation, I've said it countless times, why the hell to Gibson create such rancid finishes in the first place, from chameleon to this shocking white burst? when,admittedly, the wood may not be perfect on this for the knot or whatever it is, I'm sure that hanging on the wall of a shop will go out the door 100 times more than a white burst.

Thanks a lot for the positivity lads I really appreciate it. It's a good question as to why they knock out such Marmite colours. It would have looked OK solid white but the burst always looked bad. It just doesn't work.
