Well, the day is finally upon me..

What's Hot

My lovely mum's funeral is tomorrow at 11:30.  As she was 85, I knew the day was getting closer.  I just never expected it to be so soon.  I'm hoping I can keep it together but I suspect I may not.

It's been a surreal couple of weeks - the colours of the landscape and flowers have seemed bleached out, and life has been at a standstill.  Strange days indeed.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.
Also chips are "Plant-based" no matter how you cook them.

  • Have courage my Fretboard friend. I experienced what you describe 2 years ago when my mum had to leave me. Take comfort in the love and comfort that she provided.

    That what he said.

Think if it as the right thing to do for her, not a bad thing that you have to do if that makes any sense.
Doing it for her takes the pressure off you putting yourself through it because it's a focused task.
Also keeping yourself together for the day is part of that.

I learned from losing my Father young that just because they're not breathing our air, doesn't mean the colour they brought to our life fades, we just get so caught up in loss we can't see them anymore for this shroud of grief.
When you lift the veil of sadness, you will see how bright their colours still are and all they will ever need to shine like that is for you to look at them. You will see them everywhere in life and in your mind when you start to look for them.

The body dies, the soul does not.
The soul lives in the rest of us.

    It's the Human Spirit.

  • Best wishes. Seriously, don't get hung up on "keep(ing) it together". If it needs to come out, let it out.

Thoughts are with you. My mum passed away just before Christmas a few years ago, and as you say, things just get bleached out at times like this.

Buried my father 10 years ago, mother is 81 and frail. I understand where you are and send good vibes. She would want you to carry on and be strong. A few tears are quite the norm. Have strength.

Best wishes for tomorrow. My dads was about 10 days ago. I found it all a bit surreal at the time and couldn't experience it properly with everyone around me. I waited till they all left before I could be in the moment as it where.

    thoughts are with you

Hope it goes 'as well as can be expected' - my experience of funerals is that in among the horror of what they represent, they also reaffirm much of what is good about the human race, in terms of support, kindness and empathy - and often some gems of humour which seem entirely inappropriate - but oddly fitting....
