Rare Patrick Eggle Berlin Vintage Classic (withdrawn)OR even rarer Patrick Eggle Strat (SOLD)

I’m advertising two Patrick Eggle Guitars, though only intend selling one so when one goes, the other will be withdrawn and kept. 

Either guitar can be viewed, played, bought and collected from Nottingham, or I can post at buyer's expense.


First up...
SOLD - SOLD - SOLD: Patrick Eggle Strat - one off - circa 1991 - £1000

This is an interesting one and although I’ve been an avid Eggle collector for 15 years, I’ve never seen another. The original owner bought it brand new in 1991 (the receipt is included) so it was presumably built around that time when the company was still in its infancy. By 1992/3, Patrick Eggle Guitars had introduced a production line Strat known as the LA, but this is distintly different to the LA and predates it by at least 12-18 months. My assumption is that it was a prototype or simply a one off expression of Patrick’s creativity. 

Either way, it’s an incredible guitar, and the best Strat I’ve ever played by a long way. 
I guess you’d call it a ‘super-strat’ with active EMG pickups (not sure of the exact model) and the Floyd Rose double locking trem. However, the body follows a more traditional approach than the more angular Jackson and Ibanez affairs. As you’ll see, the body has a stunning figured top over a pretty but more simple back. The neck is maple with a shallow profile and a very nice rosewood ‘board. The headstock is interesting as it’s a different shape / design to any of the other Eggles from this period – the logo is also a little different. However, if you look at the new Strat’s that Patrick is making (World Guitars retail them for around £3000+) they share the design!!! 

This really is an incredible guitar that plays and feels superb. It’s in extremely good condition with very little evidence of use. It doesn’t have any kind of Eggle branded case, but I will include a hard case with it. 

I struggle with putting a price on this… a new one from Patrick would cost over £3k and there are no second hand models to compare with due to the one off nature of this guitar. However, looking at similar quality guitars from Vigier, Suhr, Anderson etc would set you back a good £1200- £1700.

And secondly...
Patrick Eggle Berlin Vintage Classic - 1996 - £900

This one is a superb example of the Berlin Vintage Classic from 1996, built in Coventy prior to the company’s move to Water Street, Birmingham. 

The Berlin is probably the best known model from the Patrick Eggle range, but the Berlin Vintage Classic really expanded the range to a new level. It was designed to draw on some of the classic Les Paul features, including a set of vintage voiced Seth Lover pickups, hooked up to a pair of volume and a pair of tone controls with a standard 3 way toggle mounted on the upper horn. 

The body follows the established mahogany / carved maple top approach with a mahogany set neck topped with a 22 fret ebony fretboard. Tuners are the unbeatable locking Sperzals. 

This guitar represented pretty much the top of the Eggle range with an RRP of £2200 and a factory direct price of £1600. They only featured in the catalogue in 1996 so they are now a rare find. 

It’s a beautiful playing and sounding guitar, and it looks pretty spectacular too. The condition is superb with barely a mark on it and certainly no dings or damage. It comes with a superb Eggle branded Hiscox case, also in excellent condition. 

What’s it worth? Well it’s hard to say given the rarity, high spec, and condition. A core line Berlin Pro from the same period in similar condition will probably cost you about £800-£850 so given the premium status of this model I’m offering it at a reasonable £900. I’m advertising two Patrick Eggle Guitars, though only intend selling one so when one goes, the other will be withdrawn and kept.

Trades?
Yes of course.

I'm after:
- a guitar of lower value - a cheaper Berlin or LA, or maybe a PRS Mira or some kind of Les Paul type, and
- a compact 1x12 valve combo (Egnater Tweaker 15, Orange Tony Terror, Marshall DSL15).

Great looking Berlin Vintage Classic....tempted, but need to shift my Strat.  The green may be a deal breaker for me...but wonderful guitar bump  needed here! GLWTS Jon

That's proto strat is a peach! Like an English version of the old Valley Arts strat that Steve Lukather used to have.

Great two guitars Matt, even more so when you consider the prices of Patricks newer offerings as you mentioned. The Berlin is strangely in sync with whats going on currently given PRS's newest model the 594! GLWTS

Ah, OK. The top is 2 piece and centre joined in a fairly standard book matched type way and the back is 1 piece The top has some horizontal patterning crossing the vertical quilt which adds a nice affect.

The EMG's can be partially identified by the colour of the logos and the age.

With the age of the guitar and the lack of EMG models at the time it was made...

Gold on a humbucker - 85
Silver - 81

Single coil silver - S
Gold  - SA

There are more models using the colours now, but I'd be surprised if this wasn't accurate for the time.

Tokai ulc95, its about 3/4 years old I think. Mint condition. That model is the equivalent to the  current 115 or 135 I think - from what I understand the model names are forever changing because of the value of the yen and their RRP In Japan or something like that...
great guitar, if anything the neck is just a bit on the big side for me
