Anyone remember the days when TV finished with the national anthem and then that dot and a high pitched whistle

You doozed of on the sofa on a Sat night watching MOTD or whatever, then woke up by the sound of God Save the Queen

  • Rik: "No-one tells ME when to go to bed!"

The undertaker from EastEnders: "Go to bed, spotty."

Was all that stuff because old TVs had valves in and would overheat?

C'mon, 'fess up, you remember the days when you'd sit in an evening, watching the patch of wall where the TV would be - one day - when it got invented ...

    ;)

I drifted off with Radio4 on the other night and woke up to that awful royalist dirge at around 1am. I didn't think that still happened.

Oh the depressing sound of the national anthem at the end of the disco.
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.

I remember when they had proper kids TV on a Saturday morning, either Tiswas or Swap Shop, or the Banana splits, Arabian Knights and sometimes Laurel and Hardy.

black and white Open University stuff on BBC2 and Sunday afternoons were all about long boring westerns, Bonanza or Little House on the Prairie.

Test cards were often on and TVs used to be rented and didn't have remote controls.
