Seriously, within 1 week I'd received so much abuse. It's a lot bigger car than I was used to so I was taking extra time to get in parking spaces etc and I got one guy say to me "theres more spaces round that side mate if you're struggling. Yeah, lots of nice big bmw spaces for you!"
Had another guy come up to my open window when I was trying to reverse out of a space and start giving me abuse telling me that the car was too big for me and that I was shit.
Even had someone spit a big gob of phlegm down it when it was parked up outside my house.
I am a BMW owner. Well I was until my one year old X6 was written off, parked outside my house. Some old dear drove into it and hit it jsut at the right spot to total it. Some achievement. What you can't see here it the pallet of breeze blocks at the front! She was in a Skoda Yeti, obviuously a solid car!
So, I am about to order a new one. Seeing as I have GAP insurance, I am in a good position. I am ordering an X6 M 5.0D, wiht just about every bit of kit on it. Sod it, you can't take it with you.
I have to say the old one was utterly amazing in terms of quality but hell, a flake of snow and you'd be facing backwards faster than you can ever imagine

@Gassage I meant the CSi, missed that bit off. I'd imagine mine is capable of such a thing, hence why I'm considering some 'proper' winter tyres. Will they be needed though (as octatonic has already suggested).

Having looked at a few this morning it appears that a lot of people have a tendency to make them look shit very quickly, mind!

Id highly recommend a set of winter tyres on any RWD car. They make a massive difference in cold conditions as the rubber remains relatively soft and compliant. You can also drive and steer in snow and ice if you're sensible. I had 4 Yokohama winter tyres for my 325d and had the summer ones in storage. Overall cost neutral as you spread the wear.
This is my BMW .. it was an ex-demonstrator with a few miles on it. Has every conceivable extra and a great sound system .. being able to play MP3s on a USB stick is excellent.

I don't really see the need for winter tyres as such, just go on a driving course that teaches you how to handle a RWD car in slippery conditions. I've driven in snow with no issues, you just need to be aware of the fact that you'll drift, and control it when you do.
