I daren't even look at the videos for fear of totally depressing myself. I was raised in Dudley and live in Birmingham.

Every week I say at least once - out loud, we're not talking figuratively here - "WHY DO I LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM?!"
Thing is though if you've always grown up in a city or town I think you get used to the benefits that does bring, the aforementioned paneer pizza delivery, but also the services that are on tap every hour of the day, quick roads, social life etc etc. The idea of living in the countryside seems nice to us townies but thats based on us enjoying visiting the countryside not actually living in it. I think it's a bit like wanting to drink only ever beer because you enjoy having the odd pint on the weekend.

That said, I can imagine enjoying that kind of isolation in my middle age, whenever that arrives.
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

I don't live in the country, I'm a townie (population 23,000). I'm lucky that I have spectacular scenery all around me though.

Indian mixed grill we can do! Quite a few Indian restaurants/takeaways here but can't say I've even heard of a paneer pizza, is that a Staffordshire thing?

    It's an @EricTheWeary thing ;) It's a type of cheese a bit like halloumi.  http://mrsinghspizza.co.uk/ . It's more of a West Midlands thing and a bit of a crap in joke :)

I did some work for the RSPB in my youth near Pitlochry and we toured the west coast a few years ago so I'm a massive fan of Scotland. Lovely.

  • I wondered why I'd been mentioned - paneer pizza. Rather calorific but lovely ( normal pizza with big lumps of paneer and chillies on). I worked for a couple of years opposite a branch of Mr Singh's so the odd lapse happened...
Had lovely holidays up in Scotland. Possibly doing the NC500 next year, done bits of it before.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

That's where my wife's from. The in-laws live there.

I'm hoping we move back up there soon.

  • I don't live in a bad place, there is quite a bit within driving distance of Newport. I'd probably choose to live near Swansea though, or at least on the West side of Cardiff.

I grew up in Fort William. Kinda weird as it's not urban, but not super rural either. Good mix I guess. But I moves to cities when I was 17 to study, and lived in cities up until last year when I moved semi-rural. I'm lucky as I can get to Manchester in 30 mins on the train, or a touch longer by car. I don't think I could live further away from a city. Even though I grew up quite rural, and enjoy many rural pursuits.

Where I Live and @martinw lives a bit up the road from me is on the edge of the peak district, get on the bike or in the car for 20 mins and it's a different world. So fairly lucky in that Manchester is 30 mins away as are nice hills the other way.
