Braces are for Grandads. I've not even seen any since my grandad died mid-80s.

My boss' favourite expression is "belt and braces" (i.e. have a back up in case plan A fails).

I don't think I've ever heard anyone else use it, but he uses it regularly.

I use it occasionally, I don't recall at one else using it.
I've heard it a fair bit. I prefer "belt, braces and sock suspenders". Always go one better.

More people wear braces than you think.

Belt, always. 501s and Levi chinos are designed for a belt, not braces, and I don't own any other types of trousers.

A really good quality thick belt won't warp. I have a buffalo-leather one I bought from a Native American maker in Canada more than 20 years ago, I wear it every single day and it's only beginning to look slightly worn now. It doesn't fit the chinos but I have a thinner belt for those on the rare occasions I wear them.

    Depends on the trousers.

I tend to wear braces with a suit, as I buy proper suits that have been made with braces in mind.

This has reminded me of these, which appeared one day in Amazon Deals.

These are possibly the un-sexiest bit of menswear I've ever seen
You obviously haven't seen Sambostar's pants after a night on the Guinness.

  • For the more "portly" gent braces stop you trousers beng forced towards the ground by your rotound belly, thus avoiding builders bum, cold back, and trousers falling down when both hands are engaged elsewhere.

I buy proper suits that therefore don't require either ;)

a belt please. nothing wrong with a little belly on a man. it's natural. braces on the other hand will make you look like a hipster, a skinhead or a wife beater.
& if you are seriously considering any of those, why not cut your losses & treat yourself to some spanx.

  • I wear a belt. Not specifically to keep trousers up.

When I started working I had no car so cycled every where. After a year I had to buy trousers that went over my rock-hard thigh muscles rather than waist size, and I found the only way to keep trousers up was to wear braces.
