Best pint I ever had was about 30 odd years ago in a pub tihat was the brewery tap to Badger Beers in Blandford Forum. It served Draft Badger Export - the only place in UK you could get it. Absolutely NOTHING like the modern bottled crap version  - this Was bloody lovely - the taste was  just like that aroma you used to get when Pubs were for Adults only and the windows would be smoked glass and you couldn't even peer in cos of the double doorway entrances. So you were sat outside and brought a lemonade...That.

And as for today, I bloody love a few Mackesons when you can find it... No need for food when out on the Mackesons!

In truth there aren't many beers I don't  like, although I'm not keen on wild/sour beers.

Last summer I was in Wetherby, and found a little pub which had Sam Smith's Tadcaster Bitter on cask, and I have to say it was one of the best pints of bitter I've ever tasted - just a really good well-balanced beer, not too hoppy, not too malty.  It was so good I'm going back to try it again.

Marston's Pedigree (as close to BOT as pos)
I  would argue the bit in brackets no longer matters.   It really did make a massive difference 15-20 years ago.  I remember being horrified by my first pint of non-Burton Pedi when I went uni, and it was the same pretty much anywhere outside Burton.

It used to be magical in a few pubs in burton, okay in most, and terrible everywhere else.

Marstons are more consistent these days so its okay everywhere, but rarely really special.

When I was a kid back in the 60s the doctor used to prescribe Mackeson to my mum (and to us kids) if we were anemic.
Doctors back then where great.... As opposed to dentists.. who were sadists.. (but that's a story for another time).

Depends where I am. Spanish beer is cold summer belly building material. In Bristol, Edinburgh or London their are always so many new ones to try that I never get bored, and frequently get drunk...

There have been a few mentions for Timothy Taylor "Landlord", but I prefer their "Boltmaker" when I can find it.

    Hoegaarden for me.

I'm a big fan of German wheat beers as well like Paulaner & Hacker-Pschoor hefeweizen.

  • I don't know yet....so I keep telling the missus that I am unilaterally (and at some personal expense) testing as many types of ales that I can find. Currently specialising on Pale Ales.

It's a Sainsbury's one. No idea who the brewer is behind them, but it's very nice.

    Love that quote

'Delicate hop flavours with hints of toffee and caramel'

Translated from the hipster bollocksspeak. No hops worth a mention, hardly any malt either......

I forget about so many beers

Just enjoying a bottle of Old Tom and remembering how close it is to the perfect beer for my taste.

At a guess... I'd say it was brewed at Jennings Brewery, Cumbria... and I think it may be the work of Jeremy Pettman (Master Brewer)... but that's only a guess...

(plus what's printed on the label of the bottle in your photo) ;-)
