Tell me I'm missing something obvious? !

What's Hot

Just bought myself a Victory VX kraken, sounded bloody amazing in the store...

But I get it home, and I can get nothing out of it at all!

I've tried 3 speaker cables, 2 intrument leads in, and all 3 outputs (8s through an 8 cab, 16 to a 16 cab) and NOTHING!

I've put it on high and low mode, taken volumes and gains off 0.

Please tell me I'm missing something bloody obvious. It's litterally been sat in in carry bag in the boot of a car for a gentle 90mins.

I just want to play with my new toy

Have you plugged it into the mains and turned it on?

    You did say obvious...

Also does it light up at all?

With a guitar lead attached but not connected to the guitar does it buzz or make a noise when you touch the end of the jack plug?
    It's not a competition.

I've just looked at the manual on line and it might be worth checking the HT fuse.
    It's not a competition.

HT fuse looked intact when I took it out, but will check with the multimeter when I'm home again.

Try going in through the loop.  Should tell you if the preamp or power amp at fault.   Could easily be just a valve fail.

Could it be that a valve has come loose, and needs reseating?

    Try swapping guitars maybe

    So,
    1) check HT
    2) go through power valves
    3) check valve connection
    4) if nothing works, cry and eat icecream

    5) buy Peavey Bandit, forget about amp reliability problems for ever.

I think there's one for sale on this very forum...

  • OK, here are the things I've known people to do with these, which all resulted in them feeling very silly afterwards:

1 - Not flicked the switch on the front panel (yes, really)
2 - Plugged the footswitch into the FX Loop/Solo Override socket, and left the FX loop switch on the floor unit disengaged while having nothing in the loop (just unplug the footswitch to test)
3 - Got the loop send/return the wrong way round

    definitely flicked the switch,
    Haven't taken plugged footswitchin yet,
Not plugged anything into the loop in/out,

May be worth putting a patch cable accross the fx loop

    Fuse is fine,
No output when plugging into fx return,
    Valves seated fine.

    Arse.

Well I suppose technically it's not actually amplifying anything so he may have a point.

Have you tried a different power cable? Can't see you've mentioned it.
