As you said, you'd have had better service buying online.
Hope your step-dad is on the mend.
Thought I'd post a new thread but turns out I edited this one instead of posting new!
Maybe I will go to Mars after all... lol
But, no - I woundn't go. I might consider a trip to the moon AND BACK if it was over 90% safe. Otherwise... er... fuck off.

Nah. I fancy myself as a space and technology geek but ultimately I like blue skies, birdsong and the occasional beer too much.
(Has anyone done the "not much atmosphere" joke yet?)
This is what it will take to reach Mars with humans any time soon though. By far the most difficult part of a human exploration is getting back - probably more difficult than making a viable habitat there, at least if there's a possibility of re-supply every few years.
I reckon there would be volunteers even if the projected life expectancy on Mars was greater than a year or two.
Bear in mind that most of the *Earth* explorers from the 16th to the 19th centuries knew they had a pretty limited chance of coming back alive, and many of them didn't. The early colonists setting out for America and Australia assumed it was a one-way trip too.
