Led Zeppelin.
Robben Ford- Soul On Ten
Danny Gatton - The Humbler
Thin Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous" is regarded as a classic but has been the subject of much debate/argument over the years, even among the band members! What is for certain is there is a huge amount of "tidying" on that album, as there is with most.
Other acknowledged classics are Wishbone Ash "Live Dates", Peter Frampton's "Frampton Comes Alive" and Humble Pie's "Rockin the Fillmore"
If you like the Floyd, Dave Gilmour's "Live in Gdansk" is a terrific album, though again I can't believe it hasn't been edited.
There are a lot of disappointing efforts out there eg few of the punk/new wave bands managed to record a convincing live performance, the Ramones being a notable exception.
All of it is good.
Some of it is stupendous.
Allman Brothers - Live At Filmore East
Deep Purple - In Concert 1970-72
Led Zep - BBC Sessions
Humble Pie - King Biscuit Flower Hour 1973
Status Quo - Frantic Four Reunion (either the 2013 or 2014 shows, both excellent)
Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour 74
DVDs
Deep Purple - Concerto for Group & Orchestra Live At The Royal Albert Hall '99
Pink Floyd - Live At Pompeii
Led Zeppelin - DVD
Procol Harum - Rockpalast Live 1976
Rory Gallagher - The Rockpalast Concerts
Gary Moore - One Night In Dublin & Blues For Jimi (Almost companion pieces, Gary on top form on both tribute shows)
Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes and World Wide Live
anything by camel but especially The Opening Farewell
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself
Talking heads - stop making sense....weird and wonderful
Miles Davis live at the Isle of Wight...amazing performance during the funky electric era
The Led Zep dvd, particularly the RAH gig...
SRV - El Mocambo....balls to the wall, cocaine fuelled blues
CDs
Am not a huge fan of live albums but Band of Gypsies is very good....this incarnation of the band with buddy miles and billy cox brought out the best in hendrix
Live at Leeds has survived very well too, a real powerhouse of an album, especially in the extended cut with the extra tracks from Tommy. The Who at their best.
DVD’s: Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scotts.
I bought a Blockheads live dvd yesterday from 2004, all of 50p from the local charity shop. No Ian Dury by that stage of course, but what a cracking live band. Norman Watt Roy and Dylan Howe are the tightest rhythm section going.
AC/DC "Live"
Joe Bonamassa "...from nowhere in particular"
Queen "Live at Wembley Stadium"
Aerosmith "A Little South of Sanity"
Those are the only live albums I've ever been able to listen to front-to-back, and sometimes even on repeat.
Ramones It's Alive
Talkihg Heads Stop Making Sense.
I also like
How The West Was Won by Led Zeppelin- is worth it for Over the Hills alone!
Live: 75-85 by Bruce Springsteen- I wore out the cassette copy my dad owned.
Jason Isbell playing House of Blues:
Iron Maiden Flight 666
Biffy at Reading-
Alexisonfire at Copps
Pearl Jam at Miami (good sound, not great video)
As for Live albums Rory Gallagher , Irish Tour 74 .
