I think Carvin did some symmetrical melody maker shaped guitars, and theres probably some odd-ball Hagstroms and the like that did that too?

I’m sure I’ve seen something like that before somewhere.

The DC is still my favourite shape, whatever name is on the headstock.

No-one has shown the classic (US) Hamers yet ...

Good point - I was going to whack up my Special FM as an example of that body outline, but this bit in the OT cooled my jets:

and I prefer symmetrical designs so it also excludes the Les Paul double cutaway

Thanks for all the replies, this is a really top community here! I love double cuts, so even though they're not all Yamaha SG clones, they're all pretty great. Definitely will look some more into these.

Thought I'd share some photos; my ideal guitar has the sharper (devil?) horns/wings, like in the Yamaha and the Vox below (not as exagerated as the Gibson SG- but I no longer have the Vox). The third one below is my Hondo II, had set up, rewired and new tuners, its quite close to the Kawai/Ibanez guitars others have posted but its closer to 3kg whereas those are heavier guitars. The only thing I'd change is aesthetically to make the horns sharper at the ends (silly I know, but I've been obsessed with Yamaha SG's for over twenty years!)

The closest I can see that recreates the Yamah SG shape (without being a bigger Barney Kessell style guitar) is the Johnny A Gibson/Epiphone.

Or the Reverend Tricky Lopez, (Reverend also do the Manta Ray, which is similar)

And there is another Vox model, the HDC-77, which seems really rare these days.

I'm edging towards the Epiphone version of the Johnny A, to justify getting something a bit different from what I already have, but they seem a bit hard to come by (at least without cracked necks...)
