What happened to Bernie Leadon. For me the Eagles were never quite as good after he left. Very talented musician who added a lot to their sound on those first few albums.
He got pissed off with Henley and Frey not allowing him more songwriting on the albums. He did rejoin quite recently, but I'm not sure if he's still currently in the band - which is now basically the Don Henley Experience. I haven't really kept up to date, much as I was a huge fan of the old stuff, and in fact Henley's earlier solo work as well. I like all the original era equally, in fact - Desperado, On The Border, One Of These Nights and Hotel California are all amazing albums, and Eagles Live is one of my favourite albums ever (despite the well-known vocal overdubbing).

I think Audioslave would be my favourite, the best bits from at least a couple of good bands.

Them Crooked Vultures I like the music but if only they'd got a better vocalist to complete it. The Dead Weather I guess are technically similar although perhaps less well known members (Jack White, plus Alison Mosshart from the Kills, Dean Fertita who occasionally played in the background for Queens on the Stone Age, Jack Lawrence from fairly little known garage band the Greenhornes).
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3. Basically RH fronting late era REM. They were wonderful live and made some great records too.

    Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Much as I like Neil Young, I don’t think they were their best with him.

Souther, Hillman, Furay are another favourite of the same era.

I think 4 Way Street is one of the best live albums of all time.

    West, Bruce & Laing.

No, not really, I like their albums but they're probably less than the sum of their parts.

Audioslave was a very good call.
    Down
    Temple of the Dog
    Forty Deuce
    Damn Yankees
    The Company Band
MD.45 (the original version with Lee Ving on vocals)
    Coloursound*

(* Thanks to this thread, I've just found out they recorded a second album last year, 22 years after the first one!)

Wikipedia lists Frankie Vali and the Four Seasons and Steampacket as pre Cream. But also, later, lots of bands like Grand Funk Railroad and ABBA whom we might not think of as supergroups but were made up of people who were already successful.
People on this Discussion listing bands I haven’t got the foggiest who they are so, presumably, they are supergroups within particular circles.
    It’s a nebulous/ flexible concept.

Actually, *this* is the first supergroup, at least of the rock'n'roll era...

Blind Faith is my first thought.
Humble Pie I suppose were a supergroup too with Steve Marriott from The Small Faces, The Herd's Peter Frampton and Greg Ridley from Spook Tooth.
