Can I nominate Whisky-in-a-fucking-Jar, my goodness that solo sounds like nails down a blackboard to me.

  • How Long by Ace - dull a ditch water solo.

  • Californication - RHCP.   Fruciante is another one of the long list of players I really like, except when they try to play a solo.  Most of the ones already mentioned fit here with the exception of Jimi Hendrix and Keef.  Some of their solos aren't spectacular but even the weakest ones have more soul than most of the victims of this thread.
I really like that solo, fits, adds texture to the song.

Are you sure you don't mean Jimmy Hendricks?

I thought "that song doesent have a solo" then I went back and listend and realised I'd completely blocked it out of my memory until the part where the harmony guitar comes in. Its totally pointless.

this is the one that stikes in my mind. Utter tripe. and badly played. But I love the song.

Quite possibly.. I think Jimmy / Jimi needs to be standardized. Should get the EU on it.

  • To me the "MXR Blue Box" solo in Zep's Fool in the Rain is awful.....but then I'm not sure that's classed as a great song anyway.

The obvious answer here is the solo on "Sympathy for the Devil". I don't know if there's a story behind it (can't be arsed searching for it) but the nasty tone used for the solo must have been deliberate.
This, this, this, this and this .. i'm sure i've read on hear people saying it's amazing .. but man, it's dire

^ Nah, that's great. Pure attack. Nihilistic Chuck Berry. It's like a splatter painting, two fingers to the establishment.

    This.

That solo is awesome, and (I'm no where near old enough to know for sure) must have been pretty shocking at the time.

  • Johnny Come Home by Fine Young Cannibals. Brilliant song, ruined by all the hideous wind instrument solos.

Not sure about Here I Go Again (can't quite remember what the solo is like), but Is This Love has definitively the worst clean and worst distorted tones ever recorded, in the same song.
...and the worst snare drum sound ever!

    Californication - RHCP.
This was going to be my choice too.  I think it takes the biscuit.

    how?

Well, I guess we're all different.  But I still don't know how we can be that different!

  • I learned the solo for Californication and it's bobbins. I can't understand what it is supposed be.. its like it was the scratch solo then they left it in.
