Ooo like that, don't buff it.  And if you do, don't make it proper glossy, that looks really cool as it is.
    alright

at this point it weighs 7lb 2oz... can't imagine the plastic covers adding much ;)  it balances perfectly on a strap or sitting down - surprisingly ergonomic  which disproves the theory it never made it as a production model because it felt awkward.... it just looks awkward :)

  • Wow, that looks AMAZING.

And it could totally pull off blues, jazz or metal - all in one gig if you needed it to! Looks wise, anyway.

I don't know, to be honest.  It made me think of adventure time, though.

    Did I get it right?

    Ah, don't get it then.

Shame :( it looks cool though! It looks vaguely like a Rainicorn, which is why I thought of adventure time...

I thought it was an origami-llama-unicorn! The guitar looks gorgeous, it's interesting seeing the pictures with you in as I thought the body was smaller than it really is.
Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman, in which case always be Batman.
My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

The pickguard will ruin the balance ...

    :D

As ever, nice work Mr Wez!
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

  • That's actually a really beautiful looking guitar, it doesn't look anywhere near as radical as it should once it's on!

I think the V headstock makes a big difference - makes the whole thing a lot more acceptable to the eyes not having a purposely badly designed headstock.   although you will notice its not a proper V headstock - mine has much straighter string pull.

There is a bit of a trick to the eye with the neck - because of the angle it leaves the body, the whole guitar is given an illusion of wrapping around you. It's hard to explain, but it looks really, really great.

I've never seen one before! (in the flesh).

As I said before, I think the Moderne is a very beautiful design, and I think you've done it justice Wez - the finish is spot on. The whole thing is tasteful and restrained - very good indeed, and actually that slimmed V headstock you've come up with is perfect, and adds an individual touch in a subtle way.

I got the Moderne wired up with a set of Bulldog PAF's I have had in a couple of guitars.   it sounds lush, obviously very gibsony and probably closest to an explorer rather than V or SG - although obviously its all very similar territory

So its now time to get back on the acoustic builds.

    today I have:
    * joined walnut back and cut out shape
    * joined  PO cedar top (smells great!)
    * Bent the treble side and clamped in in place to cool
    * Make some spreader clamps to hold it in the mold
    * marked up the fanned fret fretboard (slotted by @GSPbasses)
    * added PO cedar center strip to back
    * Marked up mahogany neck blank
    * fitted 2x Carbon fibre bars to neck
    * found the pre-made inlays (trinity knot position markers, rose headplate - may not both go on this)

pics later... I am going for an unusal neck design as I find the bit of fretboard that sits over the body quite a compromise on an acoustic.  Mine will be mhalf way between an electric  and Taylor acoustic bolt on neck

here is the cross section of a taylor neck which should give you an idea what I am up to
