I think I have done them all before.  

I like to vary my headstock to suit the guitar.  I used to use handsaw and tidy up with sandpaper a lot.   This is because template making is boring  and i was never comfortable with any of the routers i had sitting on the headstock face anyway

But I have been forcing myself to get into the habit of making templates, i got a spindle sander which sped up the process. no end.  The template for this one took about 5 minutes to make.  I also have a smaller and better router for this kind of stuff, although i really should set up a router table at some point which  would solve any issues

so yeah, now its template and router, but i cut very close to the line with the bandsaw first

its a finishing oil

just doing some tests with it compared to tru-oil

so far not much difference although both are very thin at this stage.  this is 1 coat rubbed of each rubbed in thoroughly.  I am going to keep one section  as 1 coat, one section many coats.  one section wetsanded coats then the final section with colour

oh, and i got this ready for fretting

i have a bit more carving to do around the heel, need to mount the bridges... then its gonna get a few coats of trans white nitro, the neck will be oiled.

so I went out to it tonight and it had sunk in beautifully and looked great, other than a couple of small flaws.   Puts me in a dilemma because i want to keep it thin and grainy  but fixing flaws will involve adding more paint.

So a compromise was reached.  I have Mary Kaye'd it, a bit more paint to be a bit closer to solid white around the edges whilst leaving the center thin and more translucent

there are a couple of issues to sort.  I am not sure the bridges are in the optimal location, and they could do with raising a bit too.   these errors are due to trusting someone else's measurements!  all fixable though, and I have a couple of weeks before its proper pickup arrives.  I may yet carve the neck a bit thinner too

but still, it sounds pretty good already and is playing buzz free with a nice low action so I am confident its going to be awesome
