The ten-year old me was having a right dilemma! New space adventure from Terry Nation, or Carl Sagan teaching me about the Solar System?

Ten-year-old me watched Blake’s Seven :). I didn’t really get into the more serious stuff until a couple of years later - Carl Sagan’s Cosmos series was the turning point for that.

The -3 month old me was learning to suck his thumb, and developing non-translucent skin.  Rock on, brother.

  • I'm pretty sure I watched Blake's 7 from the start, and yet I bloody loved the RI Christmas Lectures at that age. We definitely didn't have a VHS until about 1983!

Just about to move to Germany with my new wife. Crikey, seems like two minutes ago.
This is absurd.  You don’t know what you’re talking about.  It warrants combat.

I could be wrong, but I think the lectures were shown twice, at different times. Despite what I said above I definitely remember Sagan demonstrating how impact craters are formed using (I think) plaster and ball bearings. But I definitely watched the whole series of Blake’s 7.

Crater formation is fascinating. I enjoyed that bit on my planetary geology course. The rest of it was a bit meh.

  • 6pm when I was 13  - probably having tea so no telly on at all, even on a bank holiday. Tea was at six with little deviation. Had it been a Sunday possibly a sandwich in front of Songs of Praise.

  • I have a vague recollection that they were shown twice, the previous day's one at around noon the following day or something.

Just remembered I have Carl Sagan's Cosmos book, originally my grandfather's.

I was 2. I'm not even sure I'd given much thought to anything other than "Hmm...life sure is less irritating when you DON'T shit in your own pants. I don't think I'll do that anymore"

    Blake's Seven, no contest.

And gosh, we were three months into the process of getting used to having a stepmother and two stepsisters.  Who probably wanted to watch Coronation Street on the other side.  But I think we won that argument.

for me the 70's was all about the end of the 60's dream, flares and heroin. Many said at the time that 8 years old was too young for that, but it's my life I'll live it how i wish.
