It's great. It does a good job of getting the dirt off the fretboard too. Do you think it's a good substitute for something like Lemon Oil for keeping the fretboard healthy though, or should I use something else too?

Yeah I think it's an all in one job, there's some lemon oil type substance impregnated in the cloth so I understand.

Gorgomyte I’ve used and it seems an awful lot like what’s on cape cod cloths which I’ve used to polish watches. Not sure how I feel about the stuff on my board but it does polish frets very well.

I use F-One oil now, instead of lemon oil, and it seems pretty good. You might be able to get it a bit cheaper than Amazon if you shop around.

@FelineGuitars what do you use to clean frets and what do you use to clean the fretboard and keep it healthy etc?

I use a damp cloth with Brasso for polishing frets

I quite like Gorgomyte but i do find it a bit greasy

I often use Liberon 0000 grade wire wool to get the crap off the frets and board and use a drop of lemon oil to condition the wood.

Have been trying 3M lapping paper for getting frets polished again - really nice if you get down to the 1 micron stuff

Something I had not noticed before is just how poor the fretwork is.  Pretty much on every fret, on the bass side, there is a little notch out of the wire:

No, it's just another thing to add to the list of little things that are 'wrong' with this guitar.

Jeez. Not wishing to piss on anyone's chips but...is that a custom shop Gibson? I have never seen anything so pathetic. I wouldn't put up with that in a £400 guitar, never mind what this one must have cost.

I just don't get it.

Question about R8/R9 if someone can help.

I'm shortly going to be looking for one in a Cherry/Heritage Cherry burst, what size are the frets? I don't ideally want to buy one and then have it re-fretted. Of course following the other advice on here I'd be wanting to pick the guitar "in person" to check it out but if they are all more like vintage/medium frets, I know not to bother and to look for another option.

The 2017s have the larger jumbo type R9 frets on both the R8s and R9s.

No problem    For other production years, the R8s have smaller frets.  Something to watch out for...
