Decided to have a read through that thread about the Explorer, gave up due to Big Hern being a complete Bellend
Me too. I did jump to the last page and read that too, and nothing seemed to have changed after all those pages... And there was nothing in Big Hern's posts that would encourage me to trust him, in fact, quite the opposite.

I can only guess he might come across a bit better in person, after all, some people just don't seem to be able to master the art of internet communication. There are only so many people in the world who are likely to spend that kind of money on an Explorer, and if none of them trust you, how are you going to sell it?

Reverb had no problem running a puff piece on self confessed scam artist Vertex so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
I take it the scam here was the Vertex Axis wah turning out just to be a glooped BBE Ben Wah sold at three times the price?

Echoes of the famous Freekish Blues scam, where a glooped Joyo pedal with a capacitor added to change the pot response became the 'holy grail' Alpha drive. Best thing about this story for me was the way many of the cork-sniffers who bought the drive said that, once the added capacitor was removed, it really was a very special drive pedal after all, even though doing this made it identical to the original Joyo version! Even 'The Captain' and 'The Monkey Lord' got involved in the hyping of this pedal, with Anderton calling it 'A tasty pedal, one of the best blues pedals I have heard'.

Perhaps Vertex should turn the story of their scam into a comic book, just as Ken Abate did! (The Freekish Blues FX YouTube channel is also worth a look, especially if your thing is seeing a bikini and lingerie-clad 'rock chicks' fondling pedals and pouting, whilst a fat guy plays the blooze. Actually, it's pretty horrific!)

I'm sure the joke has already been made, but that's the closest that lard-arse is going to get to a woman fiddling with his knob =)

Say what you like about the Harrisons. I bought a 2015 Epiphone Casino from them signed by all 4 Beatles and have no reason whatsoever to think it is not the real deal.

I shall definitely be saving up for that Casino. I calculate that I'll be able to afford it, erm,... when I'm sixty-four.

On June 29, 2018 the Court of Verona finally pronounced itself on the unfortunate circumstances of my two thefts and recognized Richard (Rick) Harrison and Justin Harrison guilty as having designed and organized them.

    Hardly a baying mob.

"I take it the scam here was the Vertex Axis wah turning out just to be a glooped BBE Ben Wah sold at three times the price?"

Some people joke about this stuff but in this case Mason Marangella (who owns/is Vertex) got his lawyers involved, who contacted the guy, who off his own bat destroyed his $350 wah by degooping it, who then threatened him with legal action.

So aside from the whole fraudulent thing some bloke in the States was personally approached by lawyers.  Talk about a brown trouser moment.

Up until about six months ago (last time I was paying attention to the story) Marangella had not apologised to the guy.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, Marangella did indeed comprehensively 'fess up in September 2014.

The apology is to his credit - the prior deception certainly is not.

No, he didn't.  Over and above his ripping off people in general he also set lawyers on a specific individual who exposed the fraud in the first place. That person deserved a personal and seriously grovelling apology.  He heard nothing.

If you think the apology linked is to his credit then good on you. That apology was at the end of a long running battle with people confronting him with fraud after fraud and him constantly changing the lies until he was eventually cornered.  It was genuinely shocking.  How he isn't doing time is a mystery.
