There are Squier guitars, and then there are Japanese Squiers from the 80's.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

So are we saying from this that a gig worthy guitar can be had for about £500 be that a cheaper model with good pups fitted or just a stock guitar of that price?
Josh Homme has been known to gig a stock Epiphone Dot.

    So £250 plus a setup.
You are the dreamer, and the dream...

  • Epiphone Sheratons are often seen in the hands of pro players, my theory is it’s partly because it’s a model in its own right, not a cheaper version of a Gibson. I remember seeing the guitarist in Britpop also-rans Marion playing one (I had one myself at the time, so tended to notice them).

That's a good point and a thought I've had before, that the Epiphone models that are original to the brand and not a Gibson copy would have more apparent prestige

  • See also the Casino of course. Although modern Sheratons are quite different to the original Sheratons.

No doubt the JV Squiers are great guitars, but the current CV range are excellent too

I’d happily gig any Squier I’ve ever had the chance to play and any of the budget Ibanez stuff I’ve played (£350ish and under) has impressed the hell out of me

Neil Halstead of Slowdive has been playing a Casino since they reformed. Sounded glorious when I saw them play.

All these names are making me wonder if we're the fools for buying expensive American made guitars!

I don't really know much about the world of metal guitar playing; am I right in thinking there's much less of the desire to buy the classic American brands like Fender and Gibson and they're more likely to buy Asian made brands as standard without it being a cheaper alternative?
