A gift from one of my closest friends when I got the "All Clear" in Dec 2016, along with a text message that read,...
"I'm glad you didn't die, you mean the world to me !"

American Professional Strat, one of the first to hit the UK shops upon release, Dec 2016.
Now modified by Feline Guitars with Scalloped frets (19,20,21,22) and recessed strap locks. Upgraded to locking tuners,
Seymour Duncan 'Classic Stack' (STK-4) stacked humbuckers and two 'Gotoh' HD Tremolo springs.

This one came from another very close friend who thought it suited me more than it did him.
This is one of my dream guitars.

Gibson Firebird Studio 2005, identical to the guitar that Dave Grohl played on 'The Pretender'.

Given to a friend in need then brought back to me when it wasn't needed anymore, now a permanent part of my soul.

    PRS SE Santana 'Special'  2016.

Each one of these guitars hold very special memories and they all involve friends, without which I'd probably be dead by now.
Other guitars may come and go but these five remain and always will.

Been through a few this year and down to just three now. It's liberating to have just a couple of guitars

Won't sell this SG faded because a/ it sounds and plays brilliantly and b/ the mods make it uneconomical to do so

Can't see my R8 going anywhere in a hurry, this is my #1 now

And I don't think I'll be selling the V100 I glued back together because it's worth less than its pickups, and it's an ideal backup guitar as it plays and sounds okay

I guess he means that he never liked standard Firebird mini humbuckers, so he likes that one, with full-size pickups (which is exactly how I feel about it, too)
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

If anyone cares, the pickups are 498T Neck and 500T Bridge.
The body is a flat top because it's a set neck instead of the Neck-Thru design usually associated with a Firebird.

It sounds like an SG with more thump behind it and it feels like manchester with strings on it.
I think it's the most awesome guitar I've ever owned.
They're all special to me in different ways but my Firebird is the most awesome.

My 2 boys (6 and 8, and recipients of a homebuilt twin neck uke, and bass guitar this year) decided they wanted to buy daddy a guitar for christmas. So they took their pocket-money-banks to GuitarGuitar in Edinburgh, and with a little help from mummy (and daddy, since there was a bit of pre-warning), they picked this.  One of tge new Fender Player Strats in white. There were other options, but this is what they went for. And i love it to bits. Not just for what it sounds like and plays like, but for what it represents and the thought behind it. It is a long way from being the most valuable guitar i own, but it is also by far the most precious. And it absolutely will never be sold.

My guitar that’d I’d never sell is this 1965 Gibson Sg Junior.

Its my first vintage guitar that I bought for £850 a couple of years ago....I went to actually buy a 1971 Gibson Deluxe Les Paul Goldtop which didn’t float my boat or sound that good, he had it hidden away in another room because it was a bit of a basket case.

Suffered a headstock break, neck reset, 4th set of frets and a refinish.

As it had suffered a headstock break in the 90s the owner had it converted to SG Special spec.

To me this guitar has the perfect neck and sounds amazing but for some reason in the middle toggle setting the sound it almost out of phase sounding which I love on a clean fender amp.

I’ve came close to selling it once and soon realised my error.

I love this guitar including all its faults.

Come on then, how many of us have kept our word 18 months on?

Mine looks very different, but I still have it.

Mine also looks different - the modification is completely reversible of course, if I ever want to.

I can't totally rule out other - reversible - changes... but I will, for certain, never sell this guitar.

  • Adding mine to the thread. Parkin is my dream Les Paul, she’s a low weight R9 who absolutely roars on the bridge pickup. Before having her I’d refused to do custom shop, too expensive so went out of my way to avoid them as well since what you don’t know you don’t miss!

After my last grandparent passed, it was just one of those thoughts that it meant I was in a really lucky position to afford/justify and there you go. She’s named after my grandparents.

She’s also cost me a decent chunk of change too in opening floodgates to me trying more vintage guitars and other custom shop models, which is why I’m keeping a really small herd. Right now is her, an AV54 strat and my 64RI SG. If/when gigging is a thing again I’m not against adding a budget guitar that doesn’t mind roughing it.

There is an Italian or Mexican theme going on here?

1996 Tele Plus V2. Bought it 8 years ago and I'll never sell it as it reminds me of our poor departed Finn ( our cat ) who was diagnosed with terminal kidney failure the day I picked it up. It was also my 51st birthday present to myself and to top it off I bought it off the widow of the first owner who sadly died of cancer and I promised her I'd look after it. Let's face it, Karma would kick the shit out of me if I sold it :)

Well, Steve Vai is Italian-American, so... kind of :). It's my attempt to channel some of the vibe of a JEM without buying one :D.

The pickups were chosen to be the closest mini-humbuckers to the sound of a PAF Pro neck and an Evo bridge. (Fast Track 1 and Chopper - the middle is an Area 61.) They're not exact by any means, but they'll do given the likelihood of me ever being able to play like Vai ;).
