Russell Crowe in The Insider. Decent performance but I felt he was a certain strange choice.

    Brilliant film still.

Buster would have been excellent in the role.

My nomination, Tony Hancock in The Rebel.

  • Tom Cruise as Reacher - I didn’t find his acting the issue, just the fact that a bloke who’s meant to be big and hard was played by a 5 foot 4 fella...

  • Leonardo Dicaprio in The Aviator (sent a boy to do a man's job)

Anne Hathaway in Interstellar ( -0 chemistry)

Daniel Craig in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. (Wooden, and a bruiser playing a journalist?)

Alicia Vikander in The Danish Girl
(yea academy award blah, but a beautiful olive skinned woman married to an ugly Danish man is too much a suspension of disbelief)

Domhnall Gleeson in About Time (either he's too weedy or Rachel Mcadams is unrealistically good looking)

Hayden Christanson on the Star Wars Prequels (awful awful actor)

Tom Hiddleston in Kong Skull Island (just felt like the wrong guy in the wrong place. Ewan Mcgregor instead)

    Better than Benadryl Bumberclart.
I actually thought Jude Law was wrong for Dr Watson.

    Matt Damon in the Martian.
I found him unconvincing as a botanical boffin.
Even if he does look very potato-like.
I think the biggest problem with the Martian was how much was left out compared to the book and its this that made the whole science side of it seem so shallow really.

    Amazing book, sub par film.

I can't for the life of me understand why they made the genies face look like Smith though it looks awful. Why couldn't he have voiced a genie character that looked more like the cartoon genie.

Good point on Daniel Craig. I've not read the book but he didn't fit the part somehow.

    Daniel Craig as James Bond.
Isn't Bond supposed to be suave and sophisticated, able to infiltrate all strata of society, not a slab-faced pub brawler?

I think a lot of film producers just take on whichever actor they perceive as having box office draw regardless of whether they're suited to the part or not.

I actually like D Craig as Bond, the thing about Bond was he was a killer and a ''blunt instrument'', I think he fits that role really well.

  • Colin Farrell as Arturo Bandini in John Fante's Ask the Dust, John Fante is one of my favourite writers and probably a bit unheralded compared to other depression era writers. This film really does not do him any favours.
If you can read this then my time machine works.

     My feedback thread is here.

Several of the supporting characters in the Lord of the Rings.  Don't know the names of the actors, but Denethor, Faramir, and Eowyn were nothing like I imagined them from the book.  Liv Tyler didn't fit the Arwen part as is it is in the book either.

Viggo Mortenson and Sean Bean are good actors, and weren't dreadful, but they again they weren't like they were in the book.  I do look on the bright side there though.  At least Peter Jackson didn't cast Tom Cruise as Aragorn.

To be fair, I thought that Gandalf, the hobbits, and Gimli were cast well, and some of the other roles like Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Kate Blanchett as Galadriel, and Christopher Lee as Saruman were cast well.
