Oh if I only had the power to grant multiple LOLs...

As Homer Simpson once said everything looks bad if you remember it.

This is from 52 years ago! My favourite collaboration ever, aside from Lulu and WestLife of course.

This thread clearly demonstrates there’s no correlation between guitar knowledge and taste in music or ability to recognise exceptional talent.

Sorry are people arguing that better technical ability = better music? You should listen to some Math Rock and then reevaluate your life.

I think it's that there are people posting this thread who, despite their great guitar knowledge, like Eric Clapton ;)

I just hope he doesn't come on here too regularly. If he sees these comments, it won't be good for his confidence.

I’m not a huge fan, but I like a lot of his output, especially D&TD and the ‘Blackie’ period, despite his personal problems at the time.

He’s definitely one of the ‘greats’, even if not everything he’s ever done is.

To get Clapton you had to be there .it was  electrifying .Many of todays greats have set out to be great and practiced 10 hours a day to get there .Clapton just wanted to play the blues .His heart is on his sleeves  not his bank balance .He has lost loved ones and he is getting old .

    Very well said. Wis.

Pointless clickbait thread. Absolutely fucking pointless.
Like the Edge thread that happens every now and again.
    A) Some people on here think that the idea/definition of being a great musician is to be as technically proficient as possible.
    B) Some people think that the idea/definition of being a great musician is to produce affecting/interesting/inspiring music that moves other humans through whatever instrument is your medium.
The two are irreconcilable. And by that i mean that those who are in camp A) are full of shit.

Still gets boring pretty quick, i try and listen to more new music than old
I’m sure there’s lots of great new music - but does that render older music obsolete?

There are lots of great new guitar designs - but some people make a living out of making ones which date back to 1952 - without worrying about innovation at all :)

Totally agree!... as mentioned, Clapton can’t hold a candle to Nile in the music that moves humans stakes!...
