Was that the brilliant low budget original or the remake with Ray Winstone?

Primer. An amazingly well plotted and scripted and believable time travel movie. If you think you understood it after the first watch...you didn't.

Dark City, the best neo-noir science fiction about an amnesiac murder suspect that you'll ever see ;)

Anyone who says they understand Primer, didn't see Primer....

Great film.  IMO it's criminal Shane Carruth isn't making more films.
I saw Upstream Colour (it's been uploaded to YT) a while ago. Superb acting and very watchable. He doesn't seem to spell stuff out and left a lot of dots to join up. Haven't seen Primer yet.

Someone mentioned Roy Andersson above, and his films are weirdly addictive. The low-key direction (no camera movement) and total-beige sets with huge DoF cinematography are unique. We watched "A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence" a few weeks ago, and it's definitely out there.

I suppose we could list a bazillion Japanese movies, but Fish Story is an excellent one from recent memory. Punk rock saves the world.

    Cloud Atlas.
Weird in that it's not like any other film I've seen. Very hard to pigeon hole it.
I need to re-watch that. I've seen it once and thought at the time that it would need at least a second go.

Most of Terry Gilliam's films are very weird too - Brazil and The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus to name just a couple.
I've watched Cloud Atlas 3 times now and it gets better each time. I think it's an extraordinary film.
I watched it twice before I understood the timeline, very underrated film

I watch a few French language films and they are invariably a bit weird compared to mainstream Hollywood. For example, The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec which is sort of Indiana Jones with nudity; great fun film but I wonder who the target audience was!
Yeah the French do come out with some wacky stuff! I watched 'Delicatessen' after being charmed completely by 'Amelie'. Same director (Jeunet), but a whole lot more batshit.

Even the trailer is a bit bonkers...

Under the Silver lake was a bit weird, but good, watched it twice.

Jacobs ladder, not hearing good things about the remake though.

A Deuce , a Tele and a cup of tea.

Original I think as it was low budget. Not aware there had been a remake.

Pi (1998, Darren Aronofsky) quite strange but pretty good.

Dark City was another 90’s film with an odd storyline that I have fond memories of.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

Just checked an I saw the 2005 original which is a great film. The remake looks like a Hollywood car crash!

    Proper name is also tzameti.

    Underground.
A long, sprawling 1995 Serbian film. Some very weird ideas at play here including time manipulation but brilliantly impressive.
It's billed as a comedy/drama but the comedy is overshadowed by the political aspects although it never gets preachy.
    Terrific film.
