    have long admired your work.
He does make some exceedingly good guitars!
Or hopefully I will again once I have my new work spaces figured out.

I am in my new house now, so hopefully it won't be too long before I'm making sawdust again :) :)

Should we prepare a March challenge to welcome you back??

Haha, nah, I'm gonna need some time to sort the workshop I think.

The house has a rather sturdy 10'x10' summerhouse I need to beef up and electrify ready for messy work.  Then I have a 8'x8' room in the house for glueup, assembly, inlay , fretting etc.   Just need to sort out a spraying space too, but there is room near the summerhouse for another building

The indoor/outdoor arrangement sounds handy.  Much nicer doing the detailed work somewhere warm - both for you and the materials
    :)

Congrats on finally getting it sorted.  I feel that I might have to make a trip to Burton later this year  ;)

Perhaps we should all go @PhilKing.  A workshop-warming to follow the house-warming?

    That is looking rather awesome.
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.

Drilled the string through holes now I finally have a pillar drill back.

One problem, the finish is starting to delaminate if you look at it funny.  so it really didn't like me drilling through from the front, then when I out tape on the back to align and drill the middle 4 holes even more pulled off.

The good news it's a really clear separation between clear and colour, so I can probably strip the clear just by stick tape to the broken edge :D

Gonna be interesting to see what happens when I get to the stripes ;)

Wow that lacquer flaking is amazing! Very disappointing...

Meh, it is what it is.

so the big problem here will be getting new lacquer to adhere to that blue coat underneath.... if i get all the clear off easily i will likely spray a coat or two of shellac.  Shellac sticks to everything so makes a good sealer if you are unsure of compatibility

There is a point where its gonna be less work to strip fully and refinish... but we will see

Are you tempted to remove the clear and shoot a layer of slightly tinted nitro?

yes, but its if i can get the clear off cleanly (i think i will), and if nitro will stick (the shellac should help).

The lacquer pretty much peeled off.   Easier at the neck pocket end where it seemed thicker... I got a whole horn off in one piece.

    Started like this

Anyway, all clear is off now and the blue is in a good enough state to continue.  Stripes were under the clear so are still there.

Sprayed a coat of shellac sealer, then some tints.

You can see a couple of spots I list the blue down to it's silver undercoat... They will be worked into the ageing. Very happy with the nitro tint though

First time spraying in a year, so it's nice to know I still can
