Well, bollocks.

What's Hot

Second in a four-car pileup on the A1. I stopped in time, BMW behind me...didn't...and shunted me into the one in front, then the Navaro behind her hit and shunted us again.

I'm in a fair bit of pain right now (just got back from the hospital), and with hindsight I really shouldn't have driven it home.

Back pain aside as long as you're okay its just a car and that's the most important part.

Rest up and buy a pedal to make yourself feel better.

Bloody hell!  Not pain in the bollocks, I hope?

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery, and that the repair bill isn't too nasty - all insurance details collected?

Yeah, got all the details. To be honest, for a car that old...it's a write-off, I reckon. Tailgate, bumper, lights, front bumper, bonnet...no insurance company's going to want to deal with that.

Be careful for the next 2-3 days and try not to put yourself in a situation where you are alone or unable to make phone calls.
Whiplash and concussion can present itself in unusual ways.

Damn. Is there anyway you can prove you were shunted into the car in front, or does it not matter, insurance-wise?

When the exact same thing happened to me, I was lucky that the guy in front of me had seen that I stopped in his rear-view mirror. There was a brief moment of me thinking "thank f*ck I managed to stop in time", before we were hit.

Of course, the guy behind me claimed I had stopped "too suddenly" at the time.

thankfully from an insurance POV, that's irrelevant. Hitting the back of someone even if they unexpectedly slam on the brakes, comes under "driving without due care and attention"

They will ask the driver of the front car what the sequence of impacts was.

This happened to my wife when she was the middle car in a three-car crash - she stopped in time, the one behind didn't. The driver of the first car reported one bump not two, so they knew she'd been shunted rather than causing the crash.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

It's the *rear* end, albeit now slightly modified.

As others have said, take care of yourself Lee and be prepared to wake up in the middle of the night as your brain relives the event.

And then back to our conversation of a week or two ago???

It gets interesting when you get shunted into the car in front.
If you are completely stationary and someone shunts you into the car in front I'd imagine it won't be your fault, but how do you prove you were stationary?
This is where you need a lawyer to advise you, I think.

yep. Your insurance company will have designated specialist claims investigators though - you can actually be pretty confident that they'll come to the correct decision. Just get them working on your behalf as early as possible.

also....dont be afraid to claim! If nothing else, you might get some extra gear funds :astonished:
