The Derek Baileys of Math Rock.

Does nowt for me. But then again, neither does much else...
That's being generous. Derek Bailey was a genius and pioneer!

From the comments I was expecting it to be far harder to listen to. When I was in my teens I'd have been impressed / into this I think. Too widdly to be of interest to my older brain, but I can't see why anyone would dismiss it really.

I like CHON, Animals as Leaders, Periphery, etc. so this sounds fine to me.

I love their stuff. Another great tune is 40oz, but I'm sure a majority of the folks here will find it overly technical and unmusical..

It is indeed unmusical. In fact, I'd go as far to say unlistenable.

I’d rather listen to Bonamassa playing Albert Lee lick #79 "this time with an extra bend"

Surely it's better than Bonamassa playing Albert Lee lick #79 "this time with an extra bend" though?
Not better for me. I wouldn’t choose to listen to either.

We all like different things (thankfully). This place can be a tough audience though. Personally I like songs, lyrics and melodies much more than musical acrobatics and a display of proficiency on the instruments.

I'm a fan of this esq music too.
But not so much polyphia. A song everynow and then is cool, but it's all a bit too clinical and polished .

"Brand new day" on babymetals newest album is good. It's got the two guitarist playing on it. Though I initial though it was Aron Marshall of intervals because of the phrasing.

I'm with you.  There's got to be something in there due to its popularity on YouTube, and that crowd in the live vid were properly moshing to it.  Certainly deserves further investigation, probably via that slowed-down video to try and get a handle on what's going on musically.

Wouldn't it be slightly embarrassing if virtually an entire forum of guitarists entirely missed the point of the next generation of guitar instrumentalists?

The most interesting thing in guitar right now is getting hold of as many Chapman relics as possible, just in time for the post apocalyptic wasteland we all face after the Corona virus.

I watched the GOAT video and at the end remembered that I'd seen it before. So, maybe not a memorable choon.
Brought to mind listening to Freak Kitchen in the 90s; I'm sure if you did a more direct comparison it wouldn't hold up but that's what popped into my head.
Maybe not my thing, I don't dislike it - kind of thing my son would send me to say look at this, isn't it amazing. Must remember to send him some Freak Kitchen...

It would be mean for me to say it, but I won't disagree with you!

  • Not liking something doesn't mean you're an old fart. I don't particularly like blowjobs, doesn't mean I'm gay!

...okay, bad example, but you take my point.

    Bye!
