Always had a soft spot for Rics, and used to own one of these:

But beautiful though it was, it was neither flesh nor fowl, so I sold it for a pittance. Now I'm just down to two, and the only good photo I've got of them both also features a few other old things, but never mind.

I've had the 12 for nearly 30 years now, but I think the time has come to move it on - the strings aren't getting any further apart, and my fingers aren't getting any thinner, and it's basically a pain to play. And maybe having 3 electric 12-strings is too many?
Your 360 is a very nice fireglo indeed.

I really can’t have another Ric.

Thanks Lou. So if my guitars self identify as 'Rickenbackers'...?
Well, Holly, I understand a certain John C Hall is the woke, forgiving type :grimace:
It's a Richtofen! Totally different. I can see that it predates the Rickenbacker design by quite a few years by the fact that it was obviously made in Germany around 1915...

    :-)

Funnily enough, Adolf Rickenbacker's cousin was Eddie Rickenbacker, who flew in the same area as the Red Baron in WWI, though they never encountered each other.

I was going to say "ahhh, Rics are just a poor man's....." but they're not! Waiting for a pic of a Ric Cheyenne bass. They don't get the love? The guitars look so good. Is it true the necks can be a bit too slim/thin?

    Will a Laredo do?

Probably a good thing, for the future development of amplified musical instruments...

I had a nice early ‘00s 360 6 string which I shifted for a more flexible USA Tele and more recently a 2006, I think, 330 6 string which was actually easier to play. But the lure of a Rik 12 haunted me and I sold most of the gear I had to get this (from Reverb). Not easy on the fingers but I hope I’ll never tire of that sound. Can’t fit into my 80s jeans but still love Marr/Buck best of all...

    You mean the 6? They’re both 360s!

But yes, I love the colour of the 6. And it looks like @scarry67 has its twin. Is that also a ‘97?

Feel free to drop me a line if you fancy trading for a couple of 6 strings, a 12 string is the only thing I possibly really need.

This thread has awoken feelings never felt since discovering a half-ripped copy of ‘Rustler’ magazine on a building site, c.1980.

There’s an enjoyable short video on Reverb/YouTube comparing a Rik 6 and a 12. Unfortunately, both sound wonderful... https://youtu.be/8Kl172XqWv4
so you might want one of each.

In the mid 1970's the natural habitat for the lesser spotted Rustler was usually beneath established hedges in quiet lanes.
By the 1980's they had been driven to more urban locations such as housing developments, before they eventually went extinct.

This was my 325 with Lennon mods, long gone now.

One of the most beautiful guitars I’ve ever owned but the neck width coupled with the scale length made it an absolute nightmare to play. That doesn’t stop me periodically searching for another one though!

There was a Lennon at the place I got my 620 and my mates 4003 from - they really are spectacularly small in the flesh, aren’t they?

I had custody of a bandmate's 325 for a good while. Lovely thing, not like anything else I've ever played but sounded brilliant. Took gain remarkably well too...

I had an 80s 320 once, and even though I was using short-scale Fenders at the time - including a 22.5”-scale Musicmaster and a Swinger, with ‘A’ necks - I found the Rick almost unplayable, even with 12-gauge strings. I have no idea how Lennon managed - and then they made him a 12-string version!

Yep, they’re almost like a kids toy in the flesh. I love the look and sound of them so much, but I just can’t play the bastards!

From bits I’ve read re. Lennon, he had quite small hands and liked the lazy approach to playing ‘Chuck Berry’ barre chords that the 325 allowed. The short scale does make those stretches with your pinky super easy.

Apparently the 2 main reasons that Lennon ditched his Rickenbackers in favour of the Casino were the headstock break that his 64 325 received at a gig in London that was poorly repaired, and that he had always been frustrated with the ‘clicking’ noise his pick made against the chrome of the ‘toaster’ pickups. Rumour has it that he disconnected the middle pickup on his original ‘58 325 for this reason too.

Wow, I got a bit carried there, sorry! Buggering off to a Beatles forum now...
