I'd be interested in a cheeky baggy of wax. I have a black LP studio with a pretty light board.

Please don't snort, smoke or inject it. Remember Pulp Fiction.

Remember the film well, the fretboards looked killer

  • Given the amount I used on two necks as a rough indicator, easily enough for ten to fifteen more recipients

Here's a before and after on my Pau Fero Road Worn Strat. Not a night and day difference, but I suspect the fact I'd already used Fender's Fretboard Remedy on it meant it was harder for the wax/dye to go in. I didn't try to remove that first. But I do think it was worth doing and took just enough of the light orangey colour off to improve the look.

Hmmm .... looked at a few snaps in this thread, they start with some nice timber with visual interest, end with dark, muddy boredom.

Verdict: do not use this product.

Very useful advice. If you like how your light coloured fretboard looks, don't use a product designed to darken fretboards :)

For those waiting to use it, with the photos I just posted, I tried and failed to match the lighting. The difference really is pretty subtle. Just a bit less orange, which actually suits me fine. To get it darker I think I'd have had to follow the instructions about using naptha to clean the existing oils/polish off the fretboard first.

Would love to try this on my Les Paul's ugly, unevenly streaked fretboard but I'm not sure it would have any effect.

I've tried fret doctor and whatever linseed oil variation you're supposed to use (boiled? unboiled? lightly sauteed with garlic?).

I'm guessing this means there's already plenty of oil in the board and getting it sufficiently dried out would be unlikely.

No pics to share but I've used it on a couple of guitars and it's certainly darkened Pau Fero boards on my Jazzmaster and SC25th, I'm happy and bought their instrument food off the back of it.

  • For info, here's what was left when the tin arrived yesterday.

  • I've finished with the tin and was going to post it on to @YellowLedBetterMan , however he's out of the country for a few weeks, and has suggested I post it to the next person on the list. Checking above, I thinks it's @Reverend.

    Soooooooo

Super dry and rather pinky red Purple heart board on my Ibanez 7 ...

Some of the magic unicorn gloop ...

First application of a couple of minutes on the upper three frets ...lower three no treatment yet .,..

A couple more applications and a buff off ... and the fingerboard is doing a pretty good impression of ebony and feeling amazing ...
I mean like night and day ...

Stunning ... I'm a convert (oh the story of the black strings will appear shortly in the making and modding section)

    Absolute convert as I said
