I like that, colour on the front and natural back, reminds me of a refinished 50s goldtop that Hank Williams Jr had done in the 60s

Drop fill seems to be going well, om my third drop of clear after the colour, gradually building it up until it's proud of the surface. The photo below is just after adding another drop, so it will shrink down.

I think it should end up pretty much invisible, it was hard to get an angle where I could see it on the camera!

    Thanks for the advice, chaps

I was impatient, couldn't wait any longer to flatten and polish, but it passed the fingernail test!

Just need to sand down the backplates now as they don't fit with the finish on.

Here are some gratuitous pics, I'll add some details in the next post after I've given it a good play.

I wouldn't personally choose that pickup/control setup but I love the colour and general build quality.

Thanks all, I'm really happy with the result. Going to let if properly harden for a couple of months, then strip it down for a final buff.

@vanlooy1, the drop fill worked well, it is only visible close up from where the colour coat transitions to clear at a different depth to the rest of the top.

@LastMantra, yeah the pickup and control choice won't suit everyone. It was born out of me rarely using a neck HB because it's too muffled compared to the bridge, I think the P90 is much better balanced. For the controls, apart from the killswitch effect I have no need for dual volumes and tones. Master volume, amd especially in the updated position allows me to more quickly dial it up and down for different parts of a song. Getting to the bridge volume on a LP is more tricky. I'm definitely more of a bridge pickup player!

@PeteC, I love the back colour too, really happy with how it turned out. Just dark grain filler and clear nitro.

I think the pickup ring on the humbucker really helps to balance the look. The colour and making the pickups a similar size.

As I said before, this is a very accomplished build....y'gotta be proud of the way it looks. It's a Krauster II killer!

I've just gone back through the whole thread (instead of working, which is dodgy as I'm only two days into a new job). It's just fugging awesome - not just the way it has (almost finally) turned out but in the way you overcame the problems along the way.

Back in the early 80s, my woodwork teacher took me to one side in year 9 and very firmly requested that I did not continue to take the subject into the exam years as I was singularly useless. You have much McToot admiration coming your way...
