Just looking at the delay and struggling to see what makes it a £355 pedal. Although maybe hearing is believing, that it’s not all about the bells and whistles.

They will basically sound amazing is my prediction.

I’ve never really taken to reverb outside of a good valve spring unit but the Plate on my OX when I had it was nothing short of stunning. If it’s that in a pedal then it’s worth the price alone.

Agree on the OX Plate verb, it's insanely good.
The reverb pedal could be enough to persuade me to sell on my Big Sky now that I think about it...

It does emulations of the CE-1, the MXR Flanger/doubler, Blackface tremolo, Phase 90 and a dynamic tremolo

UA are not a company to put out crap.
I haven't played with these (yet) but I imagine they are killer.

  • I imagine they've said to Tore - here.... have a budget and a team.... what can you come up with?? And there are basically two obvious routes to success:

    - Take existing IP, rebadge it and sell it on a low cost high volume deal. Ala, the Behringher/TC Electronic low cost pedals.
    - Take existing IP, refine it and sell it at boutique prices to a more discerning customer.

Universal Audio are the latter kind of company.

    Bye!

  • I know it's an oversimplification, but...they kinda seem like posh Toneprint pedals, with even less functionality. They have limited options for algorithm selection at runtime, and there's no capacity for external control with MIDI devices, and likely extremely limited preset availability.

And at £355, that's basically Timeline money for something lacking almost all of the Timeline's functionality.

This seems like something exclusively for the obsessed fanboys, I think.

These are influencer pedals. As in pedals that get given away for free to influencers who will try to justify why they are the price they are.

Strymons are expensive but absolutely feature laden. Compared to the Walrus Makos they are a joke.

Fan boy is an interesting term, does it do something a hall of fame doesnt? No but then does a custom shop strat do something a MIM doesn’t do either?

We haven’t heard this yet but if they have nailed their plug in Reverb’s in a pedal then consider me sold.

I have no use for them but I think the design looks great.

I own a Helix and the modulation effects, though all usable, vary from pretty good to fairly uninspiring.

I’d expect the mod effects from UA to be able to go toe to toe with the real things.

I’m surprised at people’s willingness to dismiss these.

AFAIK UA were the first company to implement DSP-assisted software emulations of hardware. The UAD-1 card was released in 2001, predating the TC Powercore by a couple of years.

The fact that they made and continue to make some of the most iconic hardware in recording history, and are the official partner for the software versions of so many prestigious hardware makers should count for something. As an example of their influence, the Origin Effects compressors are stomp box iterations of the UA 1176, and the Effectrode compressors are based on the UA LA2A.

These are aimed at those who are most interested in the sound quality of the effects and not any extra functionality.
