Three episodes into The Glory on Netflix, a Korean drama about a bullied schoolgirl who in later life, seeks and plans revenge on her tormenters. It's gripping for sure and can't wait to see how it unfolds.
I got through the first half-series and enjoyed it, then started on the second half-series and for some reason I just stopped after a couple of episodes.  I don't think there was anything wrong with it, but sometimes if I don't keep watching something every day, or at least every few days, I never go back to it.  There's too much TV.

  • Started watching Manhunt on Appletv, drama about John Wilkes Booth. One of the main characters (Crosby) in Masters of the Air is Booth, and the always excellent Tobias Menzies as the Secretary for War… first episode was good and well worth continuing with.

Also started watching Ted Lasso - it’s brilliant!

I did the same, not sure why as I loved the first series! Just got a bit bored I guess.

Binge watched The Gentlemen on a long plane ride last week, enjoyed it. Typical Guy Ritchie stuff really, which I always like. Haven't seen much else on Netflix recently that has interested me.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned Maniac - Netflix.

"Annie Landsberg and Owen Milgrim are two strangers who are drawn to the late stages of a mysterious pharmaceutical trial. Each has a different reason for participating in the experiment -- she is disaffected and aimless, fixated on broken relationships with her mother and sister, while he has struggled throughout his life with a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia."

With Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in the lead roles. I found it weird but quite engaging. It reminded me a little of Stranger Things.

Yeah, I watched that a while ago. Quite different and gets weirder as it goes along. I quite enjoyed it iirc.

I watched the first two episodes of series 2 of Physical: 100 on Netflix.

It's a contest between 100 people, men and women, drawn from numerous different sports and other walks of life like the military, coast guard, even dancers and TV presenters.  They go through a series of extremely tough challenges where different physical attributes may be advantageous - some may require great strength, others may call for speed, endurance or agility.  Contestants are eliminated in every round until there's only one winner.

Some of these athletes are presumably household names in South Korea, I don't know who any of them are but that makes it all the more interesting, I think.  It's great stuff.

Finished watching The Gentlemen series on Netflix,  in a sea of utter shite masquerading as entertainment, it made a refreshing change. Very Guy Ritchie, very enjoyable, totally bonkers, some cracking characters, hoping there will be a second series

    I agree. I enjoyed it a lot.

Anyone seen Super Sex on Netflix? It's a series loosely based on the life of Italian porn star Rocco Siffredi. As a drama, I thought it was just okay, but it did give an interesting view (I don't know how accurate, of course!) of the porn industry. The sheer amount of sexual activity these guys seem to have engaged in appears Herculean. Makes you wonder where the rest of us are going wrong!  ;)

3 Body Problem on Netflix. Not usually that bothered by sci-fi stuff but really enjoying this so far. Episode 5 was great.

Totally agree - think I may be up to episode 6 - but the whole series is really well made.

Patience has finally paid off: Vikings has appeared on Netflix (it was on HBO for a time)), and I watched the first few episodes last night. I love historical dramas, and this looks to be a good one.

Just finished watching Elementary, actually found it really enjoyable.  It's a Sherlock Holmes TV series, we actually liked it a lot more than the series Sherlock staring Benedict Cumberbatch, I actually think Lucy Liu makes a brilliant Dr Watson probably one of the best if not the best Dr Watson, and though I don't think that Jonny Lee Miller plays the best Sherlock Holmes - that would be Jeremy Brett, he is a far superior Holmes than Benedict Cumberbatch.  My only complaint, and to be honest it's more a me thing really, is the cinematography, as in you're rarely if ever shown the full scene to make deductions yourself, and Holmes solves all his cases by using clues that he seems to produce from nowhere, as they are never seen until Holmes produces them.

Finished Westworld - what a waste of a great idea. So many character reincarnations that you stopped caring, too many time-fuck flashbacks to keep up with, all driven by "we're just making it up as we go along" storytelling.

My advice: enjoy season 1 and then find something else.

I enjoyed it all tbf. Series 4 was good, bit nuts, but I really liked it. You are right though, S1 is brilliant and they could have simply left it there.
S4 sort of brings it full circle though, ish. If you can keep up.

Started wathcing This Town last night. Promising, though a bit shit in parts (notably shit is the scene with father and son cleaning red diesel and singing).

  • Finished the 4th season of True Detective last night. Think it's divided opinions but I really enjoyed it. Didn't see the final episode twist coming!

Not up to the levels of the 1st series which was superb, but thought it was on par with the 3rd series, and 10x better than the god awful 2nd series!!

Elementary is definitely one of my all time favorite shows. I love the dynamic between Miller & Liu and the fact that it takes place in NY is a nice twist. I hadn't really what you pointed out about the cinematography, I will have to pay more attention and look for it when I watch. Good show / good acting / good stories.

This is may not be a popular opinion, but I was put off by an Asian-American actress playing Dr. Watson. Also by the present=day setting. I'm all for inclusivity, but I prefer classic characters to remain reasonably true to their originals and within their original environment. I would similarly not welcome a black lesbian Captain Bligh, a male German bodybuilder as Miss Marple, or our favourite spy reimagined as 'Trans Bond.'

As I say, I'm all for equal representation, but I would prefer drama creators to invent a new character to accommodate all races, genders and orientations rather than force them into a classic role.

I also really liked what was done with Moriarty, and how they turned his arch nemesis into not only a woman, but also the love of his life as well as ''that woman'' as in the only person from the original books that Sherlock Holmes didn't thwart, and for ever after he refused to refer to her by name, instead calling her ''that woman''.

I originally thought that as well, that changing the setting to New York, and Watson to an American Chinese lady, would go down like a lead balloon, however a few episodes in, and the dynamic between Miller and Liu, once their characters establish their relationship, is simply brilliant.  And as for the change of setting from London to New York, to me it works, if it was to be kept in London, it would have been compared to the Sherlock Holmes of the 80's starring Jeremy Brett, and that's impossible to follow, better to set it in a different city if it's going to be set in a different time period. And New York makes sense if it is set in modern times, a new country for a new Sherlock Holmes

I'm actually extremely picky when it comes to adaptions of Sherlock Holmes, and have very high expectations and standards when it comes to the stories and characters.  I though that Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch was simply beyond terrible and unwatchable, he was in my opinion the worst possible person who could have been picked for the part, and the writing was simply beyond atrocious, Moriarty in that adaption was no criminal mastermind, rather he was somebody who belonged in a mental health facility, and not because he was high functioning, rather the complete opposite.
