People who buy a Slash Epiphone don’t want to be different.

Interestingly, I have an LP with the original SD Slash pickups which are, allegedly, less in your face than the later ones used on the Gibson Slash range.  They are also very bloody good.    Maybe Mr Slash felt that the older pickups, while being different, might be a good choice so Epiphone wound the Probuckers slightly differently to produce the Custom Probuckers.

These are not my cup of tea, wish they do a Taylor Swift LP Special in Sparkle Red though!  =)

It is a bit overpriced at £799 I think. You get a new 50s Standard and an Epiphone Hard Case for under £600. You could probably get a cheaper case and better case and save another £50

But if someone is a Slash fan and they want one who are we to judge?

I think the JJN Gold Glory looks a lot more fun.

Why would a grown adult pay more because some other adult (with more talent and money) puts their name on something? Unless the said item is of better quality than its rivals?

While the guitar doesn't appeal to me, I can see the point of getting different finishes that aren't usually available. Even if you're not a Slash fan.

Sometimes signature guitars add interesting features and specs that are worth looking at.

Also a fan of the SD APH-2’s and not because of any strong inclination to go for Slash’s tone specifically. Been a few years but when previously used they weren’t overly expensive and fit the bill of a2 vintage-y a bit overwound which just nicely hits blues rock in my head.

I don’t like signature gear as a starting position, the signatures on it put me off etc. Where I have gone for something artist endorsed it’s because it offers something particular I.e. I have a Bonamassa wah because it offered vintagey voice and particularly loves humbuckers.

So what would make me go for a Slash Les Paul I guess is if I wanted the neck carve or the pickups.

I must say, this double game of devil’s advocate is mightily enjoyable :)

I've actually got two LPs, one with the original APH-2s and one with the Slash pickups and they are different, but I doubt Slash suddenly decided that the Epiphone should have pickups wound like the original SDs :)  for me personally the ‘59 LP is the better buy for the money. Same construction, pretty much the same neck profile but Gibson pickups for £50 less. Winner. (Although I don’t like the satin finish)

Check out my band Coral Snake if you like original hard rock!

Yeah, I hate sig gear too, like my Shiflett Tele, Gary Clark Casino, Justin York Viking and J Mascis Jazzmaster.

    Doh!

Gotta say the 1959 Epi Les Paul looks to be the better buy for the Gibson p'ups alone.

Waaaaay more interested in the Alex Lifeson model … same price but splitable pickups, a floyd rose with ghost saddles / piezo, two outputs for split signal (although think I’d have preferred a stereo jack) if desired.

seems a lot more bang for your buck.

For exactly the same price as the Slash LP, there’s definitely a lot more bells and whistles… if the extra stuff is properly installed.  It wasn’t for one unfortunate forumite.

Ouch! I had a similar experience with a snow falcon, but the exchanges one was perfect. Think it’s be one I’d try before buy.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay over the odds for a Slash Epiphone. Or any other endorsee. It reminds me of the cheap snooker cues you used to be able to get with 'Steve Davis' or 'Alex Higgins' scribbled on them.

The Epi Gary Clark Casino had Gibson pickups, cts pots and switches. Would you pay more for those?

I always wanted one of them, I don't really like combos but would make an exception for that! I know it's not the same but the Studio/Mini Jubilee would get you there still. The first Slash signature was basically just a rebadged original Jubilee anyway.

The AFD100 is incredible on the AFD mode, such a great sounding amp. I don't do much signature stuff but again I'd make an exception for that.
