Paddington 2. Went to the cinema,  Great family movie. Hugh Grant totally steals the show, stay for the end credits for his big number, very funny.

Dunkirk, really bland and totally lacked the real tension I expected.   I didn't find any of the characters particularly worthy of much thought either.  Don't get why this was so we received at all.

PS what a good glide ratio a Spitfire had!!
    Genuine lol.

Top three MrsTheWeary film, she'd scratch your eyes out for that score. We even have the soundtrack album somewhere ( which doesn't have Ain't Got No Home on it even though it's the musical hilight). IIRC the version of People are Strange was by INXS rather than the Doors original.
Just of it's time and I think that's okay, much better than historical dramas where everyone has a mullet.

  • It was Echo and the Bunnymen covering People are Strange on the soundtrack.

  • First time watching it for me. Yep the soundtrack was cool, maybe up it to 4/10 for that, but overall not for me, the special effects were awful, and the ending was terrible. I can see how it was appealing to teenagers back in the day though.

I love it but watched it numerous times as a teenager.  If you have heard loads of hype can see how people might think not as great as cracked up to be.

Near Dark is the daddy of all vampire films.

Black Mass with Johnny Depp. Not quite in the same league as similar films like Goodfellas and Casino but very good.
    7.5/10
Good call! Best proper acting I've seen from Depp, thoroughly enjoyed it, I ahd to remind myself it was released in 2015, it felt so of its time......

  • Tonight’s ironing was brought to us by Star Trek Into Darkness.
I have seen it before but it’s pretty unmemorable so it was like watching a new film. I can look forward to forgetting it and watching it again in a couple more years.

The original book book is a worthwhile read as well.

    Two -

    The Lady In The Van

Beautifully-observed character drama by Alan Bennett about the old woman who lived in a van on his driveway for fifteen years. Maggie Smith gives an absolute masterclass in subtle acting brilliance - she claims she didn't have to do much since most of the filming was done on site in the van, but that's not really the truth ;). Duplicating Alan Bennett so he could talk to himself is a clever touch too. British small-scale drama at its best, and quite touching in the end.

    9/10

    The Brothers Grimm

Matt Damon and Heath Ledger ham it up as the pair of Middles-Ages brothers - although not as much as Jonathan Pryce and Peter Stormare :). Terry Gilliam's usual blend of dark imagery and slightly wonky plotting - it's a bit slow to begin with but gets better when it goes into full-on twisted Disney fairytale mode, and the visuals are fantastic.

    7/10

The 2017 Mummy, nothing like I expected, a great romp of utterly predictable bollocks, really enjoyed it.....

A Mountain Between Us - more formula stuff in great scenery, again, utterly predicatable, enjoyed it though....

Just watched 6 Days, a dramatisation of the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980.
I thought it was quite well done, nice use of archive footage of an event which changed the UK's response to Terrorism 8/10
