Absolute piece of shit of a movie, but sitting through this with the wife meant I had enough credit to take her to a Chris Potter Trio gig. So it was worth it.

I saw it this evening with mum.
She was upset, I’m pretty pissed.

I was never into the trend of killing off main  (and good) characters. It seems lazy, like they can’t write a decent story so instead go with shock tactics because a lot of people seem to enjoy a morbid show full of doom gloom and death.

For me it does nothing except leave me feeling empty and sad tbh.

I like films as an escape from reality, the good guys win and the bad guys perish in some way. Makes me feel good.

But no, instead lets kill Felix, Blofeld and fuckin Bond all in one. Cheers for that, decades of investment in those characters whom I love just pissed away for what?

If they dont wanna write a story bout them, have them retire and leave it up to the viewer to make their own up as to what happens to them.. surely people arent that attracted to death to want to see these iconic characters snuffed out like this?

Hopefully thats what the next Pirates film is doing as it seems Jack/Johnny won’t be in it.

It’s why I gave up on Star wars since they ruined that for me as well. Bye Luke, Han, etc.

I guess for me though I invest in characters and love them and get attached.. When they die like this it kinda makes it hard for me to rewatch any prior films knowing that theyre now dead.

    Sucks.

Thought it was cool overall though.
Nice thing I noticed was all the paintings of the previous M’s in Fiennes hallway (what it looked like anyway).

I thought Bond only ever loved one woman though, and that was the one he married and whom got shot at the end of OHMSS?

I gotta be honest I thought he then loved Vesper.. or was that a remake deal, same woman?

I liked the new girl though. She was cool.
And the CIA girl was a good character I thought.

I think Blofeld deserved better than that having been the villian from day dot.
Remi is cool, he came across as a psycho, really unemotional, though was short lived.
The only easy day, was yesterday...

  • I thought the music was great, some of the action set pieces were excellent, and all the little nods to previous installments were great.

The plot was a big steaming turd though. The second half in particular was just a mess. Shame.

It was a pretty standard Bond plot though - Bond jets around various exotic locations for no particular reason, ends up on a secret island owned by a megalomaniac who wants to destroy the world.  Or something.  Defeats said villain.  And in this particular case, dies in so doing.

The unusual thing, for me, is that I actually followed the plot, I think because I was in a cinema and forced to concentrate.  Normally I see a Bond film as a series of seemingly disconnected episodes, pieced together.

I really didn’t enjoy it and haven’t liked any of the Craig films aside from Casino Royale. I don’t think the idea of fleshing out Bond’s backstory was a good one, and I’m not a fan of the brooding Bond as portrayed in these films. I did enjoy the bits with Ana de Armas though, she brought a sense of fun that was otherwise lacking.

  • This thread’s hilarious - the amount of people here getting their undies in a twist because they haven’t actually paid attention to the movies and invented their own version of events is brilliant.

TL:DR - Bond will be back, with a new actor in a reboot (again, like they’ve done many times before).

  • I enjoyed it overall.

My biggest issue was that with Q on the radio for the final sections it felt like Paddington was giving Bond directions. Admittedly not the movie's fault but made me chuckle.

I have no issue with the ending at all. Bond at this point is no different to a lot of long-running comic books where each one is a separate branch of canon and doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the next (in fact that's how all pre-Craig bonds were done as well). The bigger annoyance for me was the feeling they needed to subvert expectations with everything rather than just one or two areas of the plot.

I also didn't like the obsession with the DB5 in every one of these movies. I liked the brief appearance in Casino, and it actually made sense in the context of Skyfall but elsewhere it's unnecessary.

  • Finally got round to watching this last night. Great film, and very well made. Craig is an excellent Bond, shame they had to kill him off. But I liked the synopsis in the film, wonderful scenery in the countryside and Italy (I think).

  • I enjoyed it, yes it’s long, yes they look like they have killed Bond off, but if he had escaped then his partner and child would never be able to be with him. So better for them to think he’s dead.
I was surprised to see Blofeld killed off though, I thought he would have been part of the reboot.
Would love them to start over and redo Dr No, From Russia with Love etc, I mean their all done in the 60s and need a good reboot.

I enjoyed it. Yes the plot is a bit silly but that's Bond. Like a lot of the comments on here I'd agree that Remi Malik's character was underdeveloped and I think I'm fed up now with Bond films ascribing physical disfigurements to the bad guys.
The ending of Spectre and the other ongoing relationships effectively wiping the slate clean for another Bond reboot.
I can't see them going for a period piece although I think there's scope for that as a separate part of the Bond universe.

I think part of the success of the Bond movies was always the element of travelogue, especially earlier on when many people watching wouldn't have been to Jamaica or New Orleans and they've continued to find amazing locations ( who doesn't want to drive around bridges in Norway after No Time to Die).

I particularly enjoyed the comments about it wiping out characters that people were “invested” in.

Its almost like they didn’t notice the Daniel Craig era was a complete reboot separate from everything that had come before. Alternative Bond universe where JB didn’t know who Blofeld and Spectre were, and he’d never rescued a stolen Faberge egg, and never got Sean Bean killed.
