  • I've got no amp suggestions but I love the sound of that clip you posted @Petepassion ;

    Thanks, that's my glorious '66 AC50 :)
Cool.  I actually meant the whole band and the song - I'd go to that gig :+1:

Yeah, the solution seems pretty simple to me:

Get another Tweedy-luxe 5E3, and use them both in stereo.  =)
I tried that myself once, but it didn't work. Both amps didn't make it any louder. I ended up with a Gartone Double Deluxe type amp. 4 x 6V6, 2x12. It was great. I sold it a few years back to someone on here.

Have I seen your drummer on the telly?

    The muppet show?

I also really enjoyed it. I have no idea if that's an original song or a cover, but I loved that whole 90s britpop (manchester?) guitar music that you can dance to vibe that you have going on.

Yeah I know, I love it. We had a drummer even more animated than that in the past.
    It's an original song.

How did you manage to make two amps not be louder?

  • @Cirrus probably because they were both the same type of amplifier, and sounded the same, with the same break up point. Yes, it was a bit louder, but not enough.

A 5e3 built for 6L6s with will be a fair bit louder.

At the High Wycombe get together a Rift Americana with a WGS G12A (2x6l6s & GZ34) was quite a bit louder and more hifi than a Vyse with a Celestion blue (6v6s & 5ar4).
The vyse may be a bit softer than other 5e3s but even with a blue it got drowned out by drums when jamming with a friend.

The Rift is definitely loud enough for gigs.
Definitely the Rift. Cracking amp, lovely reverb too

There's a reason some use Marshall Stacks

That's interesting. You should have got give or take about a 6db volume jump, which is not quite double the perceived volume but plenty extra power. And that's been my experience of using multiple amps - I actually don't like doing it because to avoid being too loud each amp needs to be turned right down - the opportunity to get two amp rigs up into the sweet spot is so rare, though I've never tried two 5e3s.

Had a few Superleads in my time cranked through my Powerbrake, sounds awesome, but not like my 5E3, just as good but different. My AC50 gets into the Marshall territory if I need it, EL34's and all that.

  • Save yourself some money and get a quieter drummer.

I've had a few "more powerful" 5E3 amps

    with a pair of 6L6 valves, it's called a 5X3 usually

I had a Wienbrock one with 4 6L6s, that was an amazing amp

Yeah, I did think about that.
I love the little amp for what it is and would just like to find a 'bigger brother' :3
lol, was the slow panning of the camera caused by the vibrations of the cab it was sat on?

  • Pete, nothing wrong with your band mate !

I'd maybe choose a different amp, one with more headroom than a 5E3

Thanks mate, I'm in another band which I think a louder 5E3 may suit...possibly.

  • My Wienbrock Me3 is switchable to allow the use of either 6v6 or 6l6, however I’ve always had plenty of headroom with 6v6 even with a loud drummer, still has its original Tayden speaker.
