Ok well I've got one thing recorded but it's not an M, and another thing mostly recorded but I can't sing it. Also I'm going on holiday on Friday. Suspect I'll be doing something from scratch when I get back..

Right. Having constructed a list of about 10 M-songs I'd enjoy doing that I can sing without absurd key changes, I started a third song today and actually have it already in a submittable state tbh, just guitar and vocal.

Of course I want to play with adding some more stuff but this is the first time I've been able to sit with Logic and a couple of mics and just get on with it and deliver what I want, which is fantastic.

What's the thinking on instrumental versions where a reasonable guitarist might like to participate but can't quite deliver on the vocals (asking for a friend)?

There’s been plenty of instrumental versions done in the past. But you can also get assistance- there’s a few people on here who might be willing to sing on your track if it’s in their range.

@digitalkettle ... what @mrkb said! Don't let lack of vocals hold you back. And you really want vocals I think everyone here would help out if time allows.

I'd help out with vocals if I can - don't bother if it's Dio or Brian Johnson range though

I quite enjoy hearing the odd instrumental ones to be fair, it's a different palette of sounds and often hear phrasing and interpretations different than if it's sung. I'm not good enough to do instrumental music in general on guitar, so there's also the intrigue of hearing somebody doing something out of my reach if that makes sense

I've sent in another entry.  The song is Man in the Long Black Coat by Bob Dylan.  As the original is an atmospheric late 80s Daniel Lanois affair, I decided to go wild with my Analog Lab stuff and delved into all the synths and electronic stuff that I don't normally go for.  So there's 11 different things like DX7, CS80, Synclavier etc. doing all sorts of things, then 2 delay guitars, a high capo'd electric, 2 different fuzz guitars, acoustic, bass and drums.  Quite the production really.
