Literally every company that owns trademarks is doing this all day every day. Gibson and PRS aren't unique in this at all. And arguably, Gibson and Fender didn't spend enough time and money on it when they should have done!

They can’t win - if they let it go, it’s harder to defend their trademarks later when it may matter more, and if they pursue it then they’re labelled as petty and overly litigious.

As timmypix said, this is why Gibson and Fender now own little more than their names and their headstock shapes, but Rickenbacker are the bad guys who sue over trivia.

Honestly, what absolute bullshit.

Nobody other than a guitar geek would make any connection between the names "Theodore" and "McCarty"... and there's no danger whatsoever of said guitar geek confusing the two.

And as for "Silver Sky Nebula" clashing or being confused with "Silverburst"... just fuck off.

I assume Gibson’s suit is intended  at least partly to just show how spurious the PRS attempt is. Gibson started it of course with the Singlecut stuff 20 years ago. But at least that thing was the same bloody shape!
