I hesitate to post this because a) the sound's terrible, and b) I look so odd, but it was my first attempt at pure improvising over a jazz backing track and I was trying to throw away all old habits and shapes and not look at the fretboard but just PLAY the tunes in my head as they popped in. It gets more interesting after 0:35. And I quite like the vibrato at the very end which comes from my violinist years lol

Really interesting to hear everyone! If you're curious, here's a fusion solo/duo from a Steely Dan big band gig a few years ago:

And here's an original solo piece on acoustic, head, improv (1:15), head:

your playing in the first solo is incredible (some of the best i have heard on this forum) but the clapping ruins it for me i'm afraid.

Second piece is really great too, very fluid playing.

Thank you very much! Yeah, I know what you mean about the clapping, but that's what was in the score!

just found this... it's much more "me".. it's quite a few years old now..

anyways, it's my own composition based on Red by King Crimson.. this one is my little "hat tip" to KC given that I'm a little twig on an extended branch of their vast family tree..

the cool part is that I did this with Fripp's blessing [and he told me he quite liked this too]

the surprising part is that I wasn't given a public flogging for heresy by the die hard Crimson fans [they seemed to quite like it too]

the piece is called Purple cos it's a sort of fusion or Red with some Blues-ish Rock ideas here and there

Really like that, solo fits song, not song wrapped around a solo, which to me is what it's all about

Lovely clean Les paul tone you've got there - your vocals remind of Stevie Winwood with a bit of Al Green - lovely stuff

Just found this thread, and have really enjoyed the playing throughout, a nice mix of ability, from beginner to published musicians.

I just recorded a couple of new things so I can throw my hat into the ring.

'Scuse the mess in the music room....!

    Okay I'll have a go.

Work in progress piece that I have no idea what to do with.

    Solo from 0.20 in.

Can't remember if I put this up before but here it is anyway - came up with a nice(ish!) progression then the lead parts are all improvised..

    Seemed like a good idea.....
