  • :) Look forward to it! Will definitely check it out...!!
Glad to hear Shredz went down well!!
I wont be spending megabucks on getting mine out - most of it contains songs fret and I did. I think it sounds good, though.

Got a start time for the solo? The vid's nearly 9 mins long... ;-)
Ah yeah it's at 5:00 mins in :)
@Danny1969 -- Well that was rather good.

What a great sound too!  I know you've probably mentioned your set up a thousand times but how are you getting that sound?

just found this... it's much more "me".. it's quite a few years old now..

anyways, it's my own composition based on Red by King Crimson.. this one is my little "hat tip" to KC given that I'm a little twig on an extended branch of their vast family tree..

the cool part is that I did this with Fripp's blessing [and he told me he quite liked this too]

the surprising part is that I wasn't given a public flogging for heresy by the die hard Crimson fans [they seemed to quite like it too]

the piece is called Purple cos it's a sort of fusion or Red with some Blues-ish Rock ideas here and there

Here's me  safe-noodling over a song I've writing just to get some ideas.

Rough as old boots... but it gives an idea of where I'm coming from..

@equalsql I'm digging it, bro. I like the live feel to it and interestingly, I really couldn't categorize it. I went from TV theme (Hill St Blues ?) to Jam session to West Coast studio session to blues and all points in between. Great stuff and I like the tones you used too.

    Thanks @dilbert :)
It was my first attempt at recording in Reaper using Scuffham S-Gear. The rhythm guitar was played on a Tokai LS160 LP and the lead on a 52' AVRI Tele.
The final idea will be to try and produce tracks where each instrument is a single take. No cutting, pasting or punching in. I want to try and get the recordings sounding like a band recording a live session.. warts and all  :)

  • Clarky - nice! Very dark - you have a definite theme/feel to your tracks!
equalsql - nice drums - what did you use and did it take much effort in terms of programming?

    Hi @thomasross20,

I used EZ Drummer with the Americana EZX taped Gretsch Kit. I believe I used some of the Levon Helm beats.
It took about a morning to program, but that's only because I'm still getting familiar with the software.

  • Still sounded good, clarky!! :D

EZdrummer.... if I have a track that is loose in time, can these programs detect that and adjust accordingly?

I'm mostly a free improv / free jazz musician. This piece, recorded live with a few recurrent collaborators has a lot of my playing. It's all improvised, I'm feeding off what the horns are giving me. I like my tone in this as well, EMGs into a 20watt Peavey!

    Another one- my first proper attempt using the MkV, Koch load box and IRs;
a solo I had to redo for a promo we recorded during Xmas.

Sounds almost decent with actual speakers, a bit worst through laptop speakers and dreadful through iphone headphones..
I hope it's still good enough for the producer to work with..
(Touch, vibrato and timing generally need work too)

Typical effort from yours truly, excerpted from last night's Jon Kingsman Band gig - this is the sort of thing I play when presented with an Ionian-mode ballad - the chords are C Dm Am F

0reaction image LOL 1reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • Here's me, all improvised, so the timing goes a bit awry and so on, but I was aiming for a latter-era Gary Moore reverby slow blues.
Starts with just the chords, so bear with it.

A little fun over a country backing. It meanders a bit and is a tad long (the present Mrs Dilbert reckons 5 mins too long !) but is as a first take and seemed to work despite, not because of, the guitarist ;))
