Mark King from Level 42 is here somewhere, I think John Ilsley from Dire Straits has a part share in a Hotel/Restaurant nearby.
Stranger from another planet welcome to our hole - Just strap on your guitar and we'll play some rock 'n' roll

When I was a kid growing up in Swansea I used to buy secondhand LPs at a junkshop called the Exchange & Mart.  Supposedly one of the blokes who ran it had been the guitarist in Budgie.

Have to say, I never really believed it - I'm absolutely sure he wasn't Tony Bourge (and nor was he Big John Thomas, who isn't Welsh and hadn't yet joined the band then anyway).  I suppose he might have been Myf Isaac, but maybe he was just a guy who'd jammed with them a bit before they were famous.

Sorry, that's the best I can do.

As an aside, I also used to go to Saturday morning pictures with Dave Parsons (Sham 69) and in the holidays we played armies in his back garden and out in the woods...I remember him showing me an electric guitar and a Marshall half stack his Dad had brought into the house, but we weren't allowed to touch it because of fear of Death from electrocution!

All of us lads just used to call out "Oi  - You Wanker Pursey" whenever we saw him...cos he was.

Danny Baker used to drive Sham 69- his stories are great- like the drummer, who'd never been out of UK, putting "Brushed back har' as a 'distinguishing feature' on an immigration form!

*An Official Foo-Approved guitarist since Sept 2023.

Edit: just remembered that Richard Ashcroft (not sure he's much of a guitarist) lives in Richmond too. I once saw him almost knocked over by a cyclist at a pedestrian crossing...
He was probably walking like this. Careless really........

When Dad was based at RAF Swinderby (between Lincoln and Newark) the base was close to where Def Leppards drummer (Rick Allen?) lived at the time.

As Dad would have had no idea who he is (or was at the time), he did describe him as "a rockstar drummer who's only got one arm.

    That was about 1988.........

  • I once bumped into Sir Bradley Wiggins in a Sainsbury's car park in Cardiff. I thought that it can't be him, must be a Jam tribute band in town or something - but he'd been training at Newport velodrome obviously. He does a mean Wonderwall.

IIRC Tony Bourge's son was selling one of his Dad's amps in the classifieds here recently.

Not current but Jeff Beck's family home in Wallington, Surrey is 3 doors down from me and my older neighbours have told me that sometime visitors to it were Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. JB also "littered" the street with old, souped-up Ford Escorts and Capris!!

Rob Davis of Mud was also a local resident and now lives in Epsom as does the bassist, Ray Stiles.

Francis Rossi of Status Quo used to live up the road in Purley.

Robbie McIntosh (McCartney, The Pretenders, John Mayer) is also from the area (Sutton) and Jon Hiseman (not a guitarist but a drummer) lives in Sutton and has a great studio there.

Newton Faulkner is another county resident but I think Sutton's most famous musical resident was the late, great Harry Secombe

If he tried that in Richmond one of the old dears would beat him senseless with her walking stick. ;)

Ade Edmondson was a long time resident of Richmond and both Gary Moore and Peter Green resided there for a while as well.

  • ^ There was a period when Gary Moore lived in a flat in London directly below someone I know. He told me 'I just keep thinking Peter Green's Les Paul's down there!'

He never did get invited in....
