Not current but Jeff Beck's family home in Wallington, Surrey is 3 doors down from me and my older neighbours have told me that sometime visitors to it were Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. JB also "littered" the street with old, souped-up Ford Escorts and Capris!!

    Demesne road?

They should put a blue plaque up.

Surrey is the home to the great rock triumvirate.

    @kebabkid

Richmond is a bit of a magnet for rock stars. Must be in the contract or something.

The coolest rock star 'residence' in the area has to have been Ronnie Lane's in the 70's. I saw in a documentary about him that he pitched up in his caravan in the meadow just outside town on the banks of the Thames.

If anyone tried that today they'd be evicted by the Council- or attacked with umbrellas by old dears/ busybodies.

Hank Marvin lives just up the road from me- he's quite  a famous guitarist
When I was a kid we lived in the same road as Rod Stewart and Britt Ekland - we used to hang around outside their house -one day he came out ( we were about 11 years old ) we asked for an autograph -his Lambourghini Miura was on the drive -he showed it to us and she gave us a glass of Coca Cola - I think he was still in the Faces then

@richardhomer Is that like with the water going down the plughole the opposite way in the southern hemisphere?

Just think: if l moved to Oz I'd become a righty and suddenly have a decent choice of guitars.

Richard Hawley lives about 10 minutes walk away. Sat next to him in the pub a while ago, nice normal bloke.

Pulp's guitarist, he's round here too, the one who plays the violin as well, can't remember his name. I was in the drummer's pub last week too. Nick summat, again, can't remember. Banks?

Bass player of Def Leppard, he had a massive place, just round the corner. Think he's sold and moved, bloody enormous house, like a hotel.

Frank White, he's not too far away,

Phil Oakey is about 5 mins walk down the road - dunno if he plays guitar, but he's a mighty nice fella.

Nick Clegg used to live across the road, and he on the other hand, is a mighty big twat. I bet he doesn't play guitar.

    Snap @Snap

That Pulp Guitarist is called Russell Senior, I watched a good interview of him recently, seems a nice chap.

Not so famous, but I used to see the Lead Singer/Guitarist from the now defunct Sheffield Band "The Harrisons", on the Tram to work in the Mornings. I'd never have known who he was if I hadn't clocked an article (with Photo, obviously) about him in The Sheffield Star.

I'm sure we can't be too far away from Lucy Spraggan either!

    ;-)

I must be pretty close to everyone in Snap and Bellycaster's posts.

I've seen Richard Hawley pop up on stage and have a quick play, once with Martin Simpson too, a couple of times.  Frank White has been to the jam night I play at a few times and I see Jarvis Cocker at the Spar near where I work a couple of times.

Nick Banks married the sister of a school friend as well.

Tony Iommi (used to I think) live in Lapworth just down the road from me.

He once bought a hose from the Garden Centre I worked at as well.

Robert Plant and Cliff Richard both shopped there as well (this was in the mid 90s)

Dave Hill famously bought that house next to a girls school in Solihull, that's down the road from my parents.

Seeing Tony Iommi there would be fairly surreal I reckon.

I suppose Robert Plant would feel right at home down the Garden Centre as well.

I think he would be more at home in Underdogs street next door to Paul Pots.

  • No one famous in Sherborne, nearest is rock guy Jo Burt played bass for Black Sabbath and Freddie Mercury, came to watch me play a couple of weeks ago!

    Eric doesn't count then?

    Eric?
I thought East Knoyle was quite near Sherborne

When I was a kid growing up in Swansea I used to buy secondhand LPs at a junkshop called the Exchange & Mart.  Supposedly one of the blokes who ran it had been the guitarist in Budgie.

Have to say, I never really believed it - I'm absolutely sure he wasn't Tony Bourge (and nor was he Big John Thomas, who isn't Welsh and hadn't yet joined the band then anyway).  I suppose he might have been Myf Isaac, but maybe he was just a guy who'd jammed with them a bit before they were famous.

Sorry, that's the best I can do.

No real pecking order then ?
