There was an utterly insignificant indie band who's guitarist was a big inspiration to me. They ended up making a really bad album, but their early recordings were great, and they had that "i love this band nobody has heard of" appeal to me in my youth. Ah, nostalgia....jamie Ellis was said guitarist by the way.

I was just about to say the same. With Tom Waits, Ceramic Dog and his trio.

I LOVE his playing - and tone - with Waits.
I've never heard anybody phrase like him - amazing stuff.

Just watched Kurt Rosenwinkel (lol) playing at Eric Clapton's crossroads festival 2013.

My word! Great tone out of his D'Angelico, hell of a player. I'm sure he's well known on here but I'd never heard of him before.

Whenever these unsung threads pop up I always think of Harvey Hinsley from Hot Chocolate , I can't understand why he's not more recognised .

Plenty of gold records all with cracking guitar riffs and hooks , innovative use of effects and unique guitar sounds and funky as F***!

Has to be Ace Frehley for me.

He never seems to get the recognition he deserves as a guitarist.
Once you see through the make-up and the rest of the nonsense, he's actually a great player.
Not technically gifted, but he came up with some great riffs and really distinctive and unique sounding lead lines with early Kiss.

He's probably one of the main reasons I took up guitar when I were a nipper

Glen Tipton from Judas Priest: especially with respect to his work in the Killing Machine era. He comes up with some of the coolest licks and ideas...

Franco Mussida from PFM: his acoustic playing on the Chocolate Kings album in particular is wonderful

Alex Hutchnigs: Roland Boss demo player.. a Guthrie style monster..

Jan Cyrka: Prickly Pear contains some stunning playing.. mental technique with great feel and melody

Marcel Coenen: the Dutch Vai... I love the way this guy plays....

play every note as if it were your first

  • Gibson have released some obscure signature models, to be fair, and then you have the PRS Zach Myers, which is hailed as a great guitar, but even the reviews are saying "Um...who? Aaaaanyway, great guitar..."
