    Bairstow bowled.

    What a surprise!

  • One ODI specialist departs, in comes another in Buttler....

any romantic dreams of Headlingley, Game of Thrones style heroics with the bat are being replaced with the cold chilly Manchester reality of the Ashes fluttering away on the breeze

I don't think Aus will enforce the follow on. Rooty looks to have the weight of the world on his shoulders though.

doesn't look like Archer will be batting for long...

Bowl boring and wide and restrict the flow of runs the Aussies can get - Bowl and bat this game into a boring draw

However Archer needs to up his game - Bottom lip appears to have be shown in the 1st innings - So needs to get some pride back in his performance

  • That was a beauty from Jofra Archer rearranged Travis Head's furniture, middle pole splayed. Nice aggressive build up as well with a bit of chatter between them. Good stuff.

Glad Jofra responded so well - I know on Wed the weather wasn't ideal to bowl in, but he appeared to have bottom lip issues - So good response - And yes some good banter on both accounts with the 4 before hand and then the wicket

Liked Broads goodbye wish as well a touch earlier

  • What the hell are England going to do when Broad retires or is injured? The Aussie 3 seamer attack is so much stronger than England's

    382 to get.

Call me a cynic but I don't think we'll get them.

after 44-4 bowling the was poor apart from Archer

Not to take wickets is fine - But to concede so many runs so quickly is poor - England should have avoided having to bat tonight. by stopping the Aussies scoring enough, in order that they could declare - Poor bowling and poor tactics and poor captaincy

Bowl wide - Bowl high -bowl legside - anything but near the bat

    Now 2 wickets down

If I had a day 5 ticket I'm not sure I could face going to see the losing moment.

Our bowling attack isn't good enough. Overton hasn't brought anything, Leach got some tap snd Stokes didn't bowl.

Wil we have one of those far-reaching reviews now?

Over the year the bowling attack has been very reliant on new ball swing with Anderson in the attack and without him, there are some decent bowlers but I'm not sure selection has been the best (IMO, Scott Curran should have been picked ahead of Overton) and the captaincy has been very poor in the field, added to a few dropped catches and the bowling attack has been tired out.

IMO, the bowling has been largely let down by the batting.

As for captaincy, Joe Root is a truly awful decision maker in the field but I find it hard to hold it against him as there seems to be a culture of bad decision making in English cricket from the top down, be it selection (Ed Smith) or Colin Graves at the very top (scheduling, The 100 etc).
