A possible songwriting collaboration project

Would anyone be interested in some sort of project or facility here at tFB, whereby users can upload projects for collaboration? Thinking roughly something like a repository of Reaper projects that are ideas, riffs, half finished songs, with the intention of allowing anyone who wants to add something to them to do so, and thus uploading a new version of the project... ad infinitum until the song is finished.

Would that interest anyone, or is it a bit of a pipe-dream that it would even work?

Thinking something similar to how https://www.ohmstudio.com/ works.

Who would "own" the song when it is finished?

I would be up for it but don't use Reaper (just to be awkward like).

That's fixed with a quick click on a download link

    ;)

The thinking was to use something that's reasonably functional, and cheap, that's widely used already (so there'd be lots of help around).  Reaper seemed to be the default standard?

Hmmmm and I have a new laptop too. I was thinking about the studio but actually it's doable on my laptop now.

  • I'm in !!
    Waiting for more info...

Oh, and what are you talking about paulodrums ?  Reaper works in Win and OS X.  I run Reaper in Yosemite 10.10. 3 on a MacBook pro and on Win 7 pro 64 bit on a Quadcore desktop. Both function brilliantly !

  • Due to lack of enthusiasm/incompetence of my band members to record at home with reaper, colour me interested.

I've been looking at a couple of DAW's today. One that struck me was Tracktion, because it has a nifty archive function, but you can also choose a lossless storage format. So the idea being that we could archive projects, and share them around. We'd have different branches of songs, each with their own series of edits by each person. At any point you could jump back to a previous project.

It's really version control that we need... that's the thing I'm not too sure how to solve right now.

Im totally up for this collab too...... but also it might be cool given we have some stylistic overlap to do a tacoma/prion son song. I kind imagine it might have like the same core riffs but then you guys take it ina more post-metal direction and then we do our thing with vocals and stuff.

Might be pretty interesting to hear the contrast

Yeah exactly. Kinda imagining people will pick and choose the projects based on what they hear. I mean.... if some jazz dude really WANTS to get involved with Prionoma then they can ;)

I might be interested if I can find some bloody time to do guitar things. I once played about with www.kompoz.com which definitely had potential. There are other collaboration sites - maybe one of these could be used as a platform with a Fretboard group set up?
