    You're an absolute monster!

Is this instead of or as well as the JVM? Live or Studio?

As well as. I certainly don't intend to get rid of the Marshall; that one is an amp for life!! But this is a different flavour. I may give it a spot in my live rig, depending on whether I can get another 2x12 and whether it all fits in the back of the car!

    Good GAS
I've heard running a JVM and a 5150 at the same time can cause time to run backwards and the fracturing of tectonic plates.

    Very nice GAS. :)

That is a myth, it cannot fracture tectonic plates, just make them shift a bit.

Half had my eye on one for a while - good puchase.  The more folks who buy one the easier it is to tell my Mrs that all the other kids have one and I'm worried about being singled out and bullied for being different.  You did well to find a left handed one.

Ch 3 is voiced dead on for what a high percentage of high gain players want for live use IMO.  Nice tone, doesn't need a boost, sits right where a guitar will cut through.  Enjoy.

    PS need clips!

  • Nice!

Do channels 1 and 2 share the eq like a 6505+, or are they separate but controlled by the same knobs somehow?

This is basically a two channel amp. If you setup for a nice clean tone on channel one, then channel two is VERY LOUD - louder than channel 3!! - and you will blow your head off, as well as your audiences. If you setup for a nice crunchy tone on channel 2, then channel 1 will be too quiet and under-gained.

There are ways around it I am sure, like using a attenuator pedal in the FX loop on the crunch channel to balance up the levels. But effectively it's going to be easier to think of the amp as a two channel amp and I think it would be better to setup channel 1 as a clean tone and use a pedal for those inbetweeny crunch tones.

    Very quick clip of Ch3:

First loop, SM57b. Just one take. Second loop, SM57b dual-tracked. Third loop, SM57b and Sennheiser 421 dual-tracked.

Out the box it sounds great though. Very little tweaking needed - this is definitely a high gain players head, though I'm sure you could use it for other stuff with some careful tweaking.

Regarding the weight, it's only 6kg lighter than my JVM, but farkin' hell... feels WAY lighter. I could easily walk with this in one hand and a guitar slung over my shoulder.

I get around the volume issue using it in 4cm - then switching channels via midi and saving whichever channel I want to use as part of the patch along with the volume and fx settings I want.  I've only done 3 gigs with mine but so far I'm loving it.

Yeah I could do a similar thing for sure. But for those who don't want to utilise a midi amp+fx setup, it's probably just easier to use a tubescreamer in front of the clean channel.

Here is a clip of the EVH versus the JVM:

I haven't moved the microphones and I haven't tweaked the JVM to sound close to the EVH. I'm sure I could get them closer, but this does capture the essential differences between the two.
