  • The 100 has a bit more oomph but that can be compensated for by the resonance control.

  • Ok thanks, I'm having a little GAS for one at the moment so I was interested was it paying extra for the 100.

  • I have both. Through the matching 4x12 they sound very similar. The 50 blue channel has a bit more gain and so does the 50 red. The green channel on the 100 slays the 50 because it is a completely separate channel. The matching cabs make a massive difference in my opinion.

Why did they design these amps with the volume jump? It seems to bother a lot of people.

From what I know after speaking to Howard Kaplan the designer, they basically had to design it this way because of the amps topology. The blue channel was considered sacrosanct and could not be changed, so the clean channel was added regardless of a level jump.

One does not simply look back to one's past posts.

    Ah I see, thank you.

Look at it as a 2 channel, with one of the channels being clean or driven.
This is not an official response.

That's how I ended up using it back in the day, but it was annoying to essentially lose the blue channel if I wanted clean, and vice-versa.

There are some modifications that people have done to some of the resistors, is supposed to help. I'm hoping to buy another to try it out.

  • Get the 100 watter and squat while holding it until it feels light.

  • It is massive (dimensions wise) though.
