Stewart Copeland, but each of The Police brought something to the table. Twin drums of the Glitter Band

    No Neil Peart?

  • Disagree re Copeland, Peart and Moon. Don't dislike any of them or their playing, just don't feel they are the kind of selfless drummer that fits in this thread. Just my two cents!

Phil Gould of Level 42. I absolutely love Gary Husband as a drummer, but when he took over in Level 42 I suddenly started noticing what the drums were doing. When Phil Gould was playing I just liked the funkiness of the music.

Mick Fleetwood. Very solid, not flashy, and an integral part of the Fleetwood Mac sound.

    +1 for Nick Mason.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

John Bonham, generally he not only played the perfect parts to go with the music but the parts were so good they were the music. Even as a teenage kid who knew nothing about drums I could tell he was special.

I really like the drummer in KOL as well, whatever his name is
I find Bonham's drumming quite lumpy, and devoid of swing.

I my view rock drumming all went wrong when drummers started copying Bonham.

He has a real groove to his playing. Is tight as it gets and funky as fuck!

Unexpected reference to the Glitter Band but that's true. The importance of Bill Ward to Sabbath can be judged by the lumpy job done by those who succeeded him. Charlie Watts obviously.  Actually I'm struggling to think of well known/ pro bands where you think FFS sack the drummer ( except for pretty much any drum solo in a gig at which point I'd shoot any of them).
