When people call a Les Paul a Paul.
There was a model of the Les Paul called "The Paul".  :)

I could point out that 'A Paul" is different to 'The Paul', but I won't, as I've been imbibing alcohol.

If you've been gigging since the late 1960's then thou art not a bedroom guitarist, in any fashion.

Might be a bedroom teacher tho. Not sure how that works?

    "Toan" or "Toanz".

"Pull the trigger", too. Also "school me on.. " thread titles.

Americanisms, I suppose. I need to stay away from The Gear Page.

Seriously, I've asked this before; what does "chewy" mean?

"Takes pedals well" That means the amp sounds shit, so you better put something expensive in front of it to make it sound OK.
Think that's entirely legit, that one. I've had amps that are great with pedals (Vibrochamp, Princeton) and ones that weren't so (AC15, Tiny Terror).

  • so you've pretty well listed all possible ways to describe tone and all synonyms for guitars that exist in the english language.

What do you want this place to be, an in joke bellend site (like TGP) or somewhere chilled where us Brits can call home ?

    "Hand made" is another one.
    +1
All guitars are hand-made, even cheap ones. It's just that the hands are less skilled and have less time to do the job.

  • Tonewoods.. when describing an electric guitar.

Gibson uses the best tonewoodz in le worlds...I've seen their factory tour.. they don't give a hulking shit when they're lobbing them in the glue machine/cnc.

    crunchy blues tone

butter is another I can agree on... plays like margarine..where's the love.

We're guitarists, not bloody wine connoisseurs. ;)

Next thing you know we'll be talking about "the warm fruity tones of mahogany that are enhanced by the nutty honk of the P90s that spring up through the cavities softly and sit maturing easily on the ears." :)

"Each pedal contains the genuine solder tinged tears of an overworked Chinese production line child.".  Although I notice less manufacturers bragging about this nowadays.

Calling a Les Paul a Lester.

I realise that was Mr Polfus' real name but it seems so arch.

Nobody ever refers to Leo Fender as Clarence do they?

:\"> Oooops....I have to admit that I have used that in the past. I suppose it comes from the Gavin and Stacey era where people were adding a 'ster' onto peoples names as in Les'ster' .....nah, I haven't convinced myself....it's a moron thing to do. (hang's head in shame)

true, but Fender is a brand,  a Les Paul is a specific named item

The ones that annoy me the most seemed to be used in every single paragraph of every US magazine in the 90's

I need to word on my chops I'm going to do some serious woodshedding on my axe until I can play some awesome licks.

Just typing it makes me want to hurl.

Use of "Strat" bothers me purely because I own a "Strat" which is a different guitar to Stratocaster and it makes it really difficult to explain to people what it is :D

Tonewoods.. when describing an electric guitar.

Luthiers talk about tonewoods because it actually has meaning within the craft of guitar building, or building any musical instrument.

You lot who don't name your guitars have no romance in you.
I agree, a definite lack of romance in not naming guitars.
